Burnley vs West Bromwich Albion Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Burnley take on West Bromwich Albion at Turf Moor on 19/08/17 where both teams will be looking to make it two wins from two in the Premier League. The Clarets provided the opening weekend’s most jaw-dropping result after beating defending champions Chelsea 3-2 at Stamford Bridge. West Brom meanwhile beat Bournemouth 1-0 to kick their season off in solid fashion. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Burnley will be flying after their win at Chelsea last weekend, as they now return to Turf Moor with the intention of maintaining their outstanding home form from last season. West Brom will be no pushovers, but I can see a narrow Burnley win here.

Burnley Preview

Even Sean Dyche will have been left stunned by the magnitude of Burnley’s victory over Chelsea on the opening day of the season - even if they did beat the champions when reduced to 9 men. Gary Cahill’s 14th minute red card undoubtedly helped their cause, but the Clarets were absolutely ruthless in taking advantage of the extra man. Sam Vokes scored either side of a Stephen Ward thunderbolt to give Burnley a superb 3-0 lead at the break. Alvaro Morata and David Luiz responded in the second half, but the Clarets held out for a 3-2 victory. The annual pre-season predictions have seen Burnley emerge as relegation favourites, with many appearing to believe they are set to get found out by the rest of the league this time around - not to mention the £30m departure of Michael Keane to Everton. It was ultimately their home form which kept them in the Premier League last year, but they began to slump at the end of the campaign, winning just one of their final six games at Turf Moor. Having got the away win monkey off their backs early, Dyche will be targeting a more consistent, rounded season this time around.

Burnley Team News

Dean Marney (cruciate ligament) is Burnley’s only injury absentee for this fixture.

West Bromwich Albion Preview

Three points and a clean sheet - the ideal Tony Pulis opening to a Premier League season, and that’s exactly what his West Brom side delivered last time out, beating Bournemouth 1-0 at home last Saturday. Despite having perhaps one of the more quiet transfer windows of Premier League sides to date, it was a new signing who scored the game’s only goal, as Ahmed Hegazi struck for the hosts. He was one of two debutants for the Baggies, along with Jay Rodriguez, as they put an end to a run of four home defeats from the end of last season - all of which came by a 1-0 scoreline. After finishing in the top half last term, the aim will be to outdo their 10th-placed finish in 2016/17, particularly after spending the majority of the season in 8th. West Brom had the 12th-best away record in the division last season, winning just three games on the road, but recorded a league-high seven draws. Defeat here, though, would see their winless away run be extended to ten matches on the bounce.

West Bromwich Albion Team News

West Brom will assess defenders Gareth McAuley (thigh) and Jonny Evans (hamstring), both of whom are struggling with knocks. New signing Gareth Barry (ankle) and James Morrison (knee) are both doubtful.
