Burnley vs Southampton Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Burnley were at the end of another 1-0 defeat, and it was the turn of Swansea to get a win over Sean Dyche’s team. The game at the Liberty stadium witnessed Swansea dominate in terms of possession and chances, but Burnley’s hopes of getting a point were dashed in the 81st minute by Ki Sung-Yeung’s goal. Southampton progressed into the FA Cup quarter-finals after a 2-1 win over West Brom. Wesley Hoedt and Dusan Tadic were unable to capitalise on West Brom’s hapless defending and provide a 2-0 lead by the 56th minute. Salomon Rondon’s 58th minute goal threatened to produce a comeback before Southampton held on for a win. The previous league outing saw Southampton lose 2-0 against Liverpool.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Burnley have been able to get back-to-back wins over Southampton. Both these wins have been through a 1-0 result, and this result has frequented games involving the Clarets. Southampton’s away form has improved a lot in the last two months, even when the team has played against some high profile opponents like Manchester United. A draw seems as a probable result in the game. Southampton’s substantial improvement in results have been down to an attack that has failed to score only once in the last nine games across all competitions. Burnley’s biggest strength is their defence, but the Clarets are without a clean sheet in the last six games. A great option would be to choose both teams to score.

Burnley Preview

Burnley have been able to remain in the top 10 places of the table, but the team are facing intense heat from the likes of Leicester City and Everton. A run of 10 Premier League games without a victory means that Burnley have effectively moved away from a challenge for the Europa League places. Now, it is about managing to finish in the top 10 places of the Premier League for Sean Dyche and his men. Burnley have struggled going forward throughout the campaign, but their defence has been a strong point. The injuries to key attacking players have not helped the Clarets. Top scorer Chris Wood has four league goals this season.

Burnley Team News

Robert Brady (knee), Phil Bardsley (hamstring), Steven Defour (knee), and Jonathan Walters (knee) are ruled out of the game, while James Tarkowski is rated as doubtful.

Southampton Preview

Mauricio Pellegrino will still be pinching himself at the remarkable turnaround in fortunes at Southampton. After being on the verge of an exit from the club owing to a poor set of results for several weeks, Southampton now find themselves in a position to get out of the bottom three. Swansea and Huddersfield picking up points in recent weeks has not helped Southampton’s case, but it is still a huge improvement that the team has managed six points from the last six games. Charlie Austin has scored the most goals (6) for Southampton in the league so far.

Southampton Team News

Steven Davies, Charlie Austin (hamstring), and Maya Yoshida (knee) miss out on this game due to injuries.
