Burnley vs Newcastle United Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Burnley host Newcastle United at Turf Moor on 30/10/17 in a meeting of two sides who currently find themselves in the top half of the table. Burnley were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Manchester City last time out, while Newcastle defeated Crystal Palace 1-0. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Burnley have struggled at home so far this season, while Newcastle have begun to look strong and organised away. I’m expecting the away side to pick up a result here, with Rafa Benitez really beginning to build momentum in the north east.

Burnley Preview

Given their away form prior to visiting Manchester City, Burnley won’t have feared the prospect of visiting the Etihad Stadium, though they eventually suffered the fate teams better than themselves may expect to face this season. Having got positive results at Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton in their first four away games, this wasn’t quite as successful a trip for Burnley, who were 1-0 down when Sergio Aguero scored from the penalty spot. Things were made worse in the second half as Nicolas Otamendi and Leroy Sane each scored in the space of three minutes to confirm the win for the home team, a result which saw Burnley drop down to 8th. That will more than satisfy Sean Dyche, who will surely be targeting a top-half finish for his team this season after comfortably surviving from relegation last term. For all of the positives, there’s also been negatives facing the Clarets so far this season, such as their current form at Turf Moor. Dyche has seen his team win just one of their first four games at home, though they are unbeaten in their last three. With Dyche reportedly of interest to Everton, it will be interesting to see how the speculation affects the performances of Burnley players here.

Burnley Team News

Tom Heaton (shoulder) and Jonathan Walters (knee) are both ruled out through injury. Chris Wood (hamstring) is a doubt.

Newcastle United Preview

There are few better clubs to be at than Newcastle when momentum is building, with the fans extremely on side with what Rafa Benitez is looking to achieve at St. James’ Park. Last time out, Crystal Palace were unable to overcome the Magpies thanks to a late goal which came courtesy of Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino. Merino rose highest to head home Matt Ritchie’s corner with just four minutes to go, as Newcastle continued their good form in the Premier League, rising up to 7th ahead of Burnley with this most recent victory. St. James’ Park in particular has become a real fortress in recent weeks, with the team winning three and drawing one of their last four home games following a brave display with 10 men on their opening day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. With the club currently up for sale, optimism is currently at the highest point it has been for some time at Newcastle, as Mike Ashley finally granted the fans their wishes to find fresh investment. The challenge now moves to becoming more consistent away from home, having won just one of their first four away games in the Premier League this season.

Newcastle United Team News

Dwight Gayle will have a calf problem assessed ahead of this weekend, but Paul Dummett (hamstring) is still missing through injury.
