Burnley vs Manchester United Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Burnley welcome Manchester United to Turf Moor on 23/04/17 as the home side look to claim yet another scalp on their home ground. Burnley’s away struggles continued last time out as they lost 3-1 away to Everton at Goodison Park. Man United, though, beat Anderlecht 2-1 to progress to the semi-finals of the Europa League. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Manchester United looked excellent against Chelsea last weekend and seem to be clicking into gear at just the right moment of the season. Burnley will be tough opposition, but I’m expecting United to come away from this one with three points.

Burnley Preview

Burnley’s wait for an away victory in the Premier League continued last time out, as they were beaten 3-1 by Everton at Goodison Park in an exciting second-half where all four goals were scored. Phil Jagielka netted his third goal in three games to give the Toffees the lead four minutes into the second half, but Burnley were soon back on level terms through Sam Vokes’ penalty. With twenty minutes remaining, Ross Barkley’s shot took a heavy deflection off Ben Mee to restored the hosts’ lead before Romelu Lukaku killed the game off with his 24th Premier League goal of the season. Sean Dyche’s men have really tailed off since the end of January, winning just one of their last eleven matches in all competitions, including an infamous 1-0 defeat at home to Lincoln City in the FA Cup. This calendar year, the Clarets have won just three Premier League games, all of which have been by a 1-0 scoreline at home, although they did return to winning ways in their previous home match. Dyche has also guided his side to six home wins in their last eight and this will be a far from easy task for Manchester United, who were in European action on Thursday night, to navigate their way through. Currently eight points clear of the relegation zone, one more win should be enough to confirm their place in the Premier League next term once and for all.

Man United Preview

Manchester United’s entrance into the semi-finals of the Europa League was sealed on Thursday evening, as they eventually overcame Belgian side Anderlecht 3-2 on aggregate, winning 2-1 on the night at Old Trafford after extra time. It took just ten minutes for Henrikh Mkhitaryan to break the deadlock for United, collecting the ball from Marcus Rashford before lashing past the helpless Ruben. Anderlecht’s equaliser came with more than a hint of good fortune, with Sofiane Hanni striking home after a deflected strike hit the bar. The game consequently went into stoppage time, and, from a Marouane Fellaini header, Marcus Rashford clinically tucked away his chance to put his team through. Now returning to Premier League action, Jose Mourinho’s team have the chance to close the gap between themselves and Manchester City in 4th to just a single point ahead of their huge clash at the Etihad on Thursday night. Given their current away form of seven wins and two draws in their last nine matches, as well as scoring three in each of their last three trips on the road, United will be confident of another victory here. However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic picked up a nasty knee injury midweek, and his absence is set to be a significant blow to their top-four hopes. However, United overcame Chelsea without the Swede in the starting lineup last weekend and know that level of performance between now and the end of the season would guarantee them a place in the top four.
