Burnley are completely out of form at present and given the way Pep Guardiola’s men are continuing to play, I’m expecting a comfortable away win here.

Burnley Preview

Although three points may not have come their way, Burnley managed to somewhat stop the rot against Newcastle United in midweek after taking a point from St. James’ Park with a 1-1 draw. Jamaal Lascelles opened the scoring for the Magpies in the 65th minute with a superb header from debutant Kenedy’s corner. That moment forced Sean Dyche’s hand to a certain extent, introducing Aaron Lennon, Sam Vokes and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou from the bench and it brought the desired effect as Vokes’ header went in off the back of Karl Darlow with just five minutes remaining. Though Burnley put an end to their four-match losing streak at St. James’ Park, they are still desperate for a victory this weekend, currently going nine games without one and have lost three on the bounce at Turf Moor. However, they have faced Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United during those three games, and with City to come this weekend, a drop-off was perhaps expected. Burnley have already faced Pep Guardiola’s side twice this season, ending in 3-0 and 4-1 defeats at the Etihad Stadium, both of which have featured late goals from their opponents.

Burnley Team News

Knee injuries have been the bane of Burnley of late, losing Stephen Ward, Dean Marney, Steven Defour, Robbie Brady, Jonathan Walters and Chris Wood to injury, while Tom Heaton (shoulder) and James Tarkowski (groin) are both doubts.

Manchester City Preview

Manchester City victories no longer come with any tint of surprise, but are rather to be absolutely expected, something which was the case once again on Wednesday night after they cruised to a 3-0 win at home to West Brom. Fernandinho scored the opening goal for the home side after 19 minutes, though it took them a further 48 minutes for the second as Kevin de Bruyne bagged a deserved strike. Sergio Aguero scored the third a minute from time as City secured another comprehensive three points, though Pep Guardiola left the Etihad with a bitter taste in his mouth. Having lost Leroy Sane to a reckless challenge at the weekend against Cardiff, both Matt Phillips and James McClean took similarly cynical swipes at City players, leaving them at risk of further injury. Whether the tactic of being overly-aggressive against City becomes a trend or not in the coming weeks remains to be seen, though they will hope not signing Riyad Mahrez on deadline day becomes a regret. Guardiola’s side are now on their longest wait for an away win in the Premier League since April 2017 after going two games without a victory on the road.

Manchester City Team News

Benjamin Mendy, Fabian Delph and Gabriel Jesus are all missing with knee injuries, while Leroy Sane (ankle) is also ruled out. David Silva (hip) is a doubt.
