Burnley vs Huddersfield Town Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Burnley welcome Huddersfield Town to Turf Moor on 23/09/17 in a meeting of two teams that continue to exceed expectations early in this Premier League season. Burnley held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield last weekend, as Huddersfield’s clash with Leicester City ended in the same scoreline. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Burnley’s home record last season was superb and after a morale-boosting result at Anfield last weekend, I’m expecting this result to go the way of the home side here.

Burnley win - 23/20
Burnley win and both teams to score YES - 9/2

Burnley Preview

Through the utmost confidence he has in his side, even Sean Dyche must be surprised with the way his team have performed away from home at the opening of the new season. Now unbeaten in three, it was Liverpool who were left frustrated by the Clarets, who took the lead through Scott Arfield. Although Mohamed Salah pulled Liverpool level just three minutes later after the breakthrough, Burnley were able to hold onto their point through a Liverpool onslaught, as Dominic Solanke hit the crossbar late in the second half. Now unbeaten in their last three Premier League games, Burnley currently sit 7th in the Premier League table, level on points with Liverpool and Tottenham. Dyche will be delighted with the fact his team have taken five points from their opening three away games, especially when many would’ve projected them taking nothing, as they travelled to Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool in their opening three road games. That will perhaps make their defeat against West Brom earlier in the season all the more infuriating, with that being their only defeat of their Premier League campaign so far and one they would have been targeting to take three points from.

Burnley Team News

Tom Heaton (dislocated shoulder) faces a long spell on the sidelines, so Nick Pope will continue in goal. Dean Marney (cruciate ligament) and Nahki Wells (ankle) are both ruled out, while Jeff Hendrick (thigh) is a doubt.

Huddersfield Town Preview

Huddersfield maintained their solid start to the season at home to Leicester last weekend, as they held the 2016 Premier League champions to a 1-1 draw at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Forward Laurent Depoitre - who was making his first start of the Premier League season - opened the scoring for the Terriers less than a minute into the second half, holding off Harry Maguire before drilling the ball past Kasper Schmeichel. However, they were unable to hold on for the victory, as Jamie Vardy’s penalty ensured the contest would end honours even. Although David Wagner’s side have lost just once in their opening five games, they are currently without a win in their last three league outings and will be keen to pick up another victory sooner than later. With a win and a defeat from their two away games so far, it’s been a mixed bag of results from an admittedly small sample size, with it still difficult to tell how well they will fare away from their home this season. Huddersfield have a poor recent record against Burnley and have lost on each of their two trips to Turf Moor.

Huddersfield Town Team News

Kasey Palmer (hamstring), Jon Gorenc-Stankovic (cruciate ligament) and Collin Quaner (calf) are ruled out here. Martin Crainie (hip) and Steve Mounie (heel) are both doubtful.
