Burnley vs Crystal Palace Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Burnley take on Crystal Palace at Turf Moor on 10/09/17 in a meeting of two sides who have enjoyed contrasting openings to the new season. Burnley will have been delighted after taking a late point away from Tottenham Hotspur last time out, as Crystal Palace lost once again, this time a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Swansea. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Crystal Palace have really struggled so far this season and appear to be struggling to adapt to Frank de Boer’s style of play. Burnley on the other hand are a settled team, particularly at Turf Moor, and I’m backing the home side to pick up three points here.

Burnley Preview

The spirit of this Burnley side was exemplified at Wembley a fortnight ago, as the Clarets hung on in long enough against Tottenham Hotspur to give themselves a fighting chance late on. Spurs were always expected to dominate such a game, but Sean Dyche’s men were always within an arm’s length of getting back into the game, even when Dele Alli gave the hosts the lead at the start of the second half. Tottenham failed to add a second, which then allowed Chris Wood to steal a dramatic point late on, as he clinically converted Robbie Brady’s excellent pass on the counter-attack to stun the home fans. Now returning to home comforts, Burnley will be looking to put right the wrongs of their last fixture at Turf Moor, where they lost 1-0 at home to West Brom. Stretching back to last season, Burnley are now without a win in their previous four games in the Premier League at home, taking just one point from a possible twelve in the process. However, they were formidable on the whole at home last term, winning five on the bounce at one stage of the season.

Burnley Team News

Dean Marney (cruciate ligament) is ruled out for the Clarets, as is new signing Nahki Wells (ankle). Jeff Hendrick (thigh) will be assessed.

Crystal Palace Preview

The lunacy of modern football has seen reports circulating this week suggesting that Frank de Boer may have just one game remaining to save his job at Crystal Palace - just three games into the new season. Admittedly, the early signs of the de Boer era have made cause for concern, with poor defending and a lack of ruthlessness in attack creating a poor mix. Tammy Abraham opened the scoring with a header just before the break, while Jordan Ayew netted minutes into the second half as Paul Clement’s side came out with their first victory of the season, leaving Palace second from bottom with -6 goal difference. If whispers from inside the club are to be believed, this could prove to be de Boer’s final game in charge of the Eagles, despite only being in the job for a matter of months. Having signed Mamadou Sakho on a permanent basis from Liverpool on deadline day, de Boer will now hope the Frenchman can help solidify their defence just as he did when arriving on loan last term. The three-man defence simply hasn’t worked for Palace so far this season and it will be interesting to see how they line up this weekend.

Crystal Palace Team News

Mamadou Sakho could feature despite suffering from a knee injury. Ruben Loftus-Cheek (groin) and Wilfried Zaha (knee) are both ruled out, as are Bakary Sako (calf) and Connor Wickham (cruciate ligament).
