Bulgaria vs France Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

France will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the World Cup qualifying group A table when they travel to the Stadion Vasil Levski to take on Bulgaria on Saturday night. Bulgaria suffered a 3-1 defeat on the road in Holland last time out, with their consolation goal being scored by Georgi Konstandinov. On the flip side, France have been involved in one of the most shocking results of the previous round as they only drew nil-nil against the minnows Luxembourg. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

France are in dire need of a victory here and they can’t afford to make another mistake, but Bulgaria could prove stubborn opponents. Bulgaria are currently on a five-game winning streak across all competitions, including four World Cup qualifiers. Furthermore, they have scored at least two goals in three of these four home qualifiers. It should be goals in this one as the last three meetings between these two sides have seen more than three goals scored.

Bulgaria Preview

Bulgaria have been playing for all or nothing in this qualifying campaign, having lost four and win four of their eight group fixtures. This leaves Bulgaria only in 4th spot in the group A table with 12 points under their belts after eight rounds, already five points behind the current leaders France and four adrift of the second-placed Sweden. Keeping the ball out of the net has been Bulgaria’s main issue throughout this qualifying campaign as they hold the joint worst defensive record in the division with 17 goals conceded in eight games. The most impressive thing is that the Bulgarians have won all of their four home qualifiers throughout this campaign, including victories over the Netherlands and Sweden. In addition, Bulgaria are undefeated in seven home meetings with France across all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in five of these. Bulgaria did well to beat Sweden 3-2 at home towards the end of August, but they suffered a 3-1 away defeat against the Netherlands in their most recent qualifier. Georgi Kostadinov has been Bulgaria’s most prolific player in front of goal throughout this qualifying campaign, helping the team with three goals and one assist.

Bulgaria Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Bulgaria ahead of this clash.

France Preview

France, on the flip side, have endured a mixed run of form recently, registering one defeat, one victory and one draw in their last three qualifiers. They have kept a clean sheet in their most recent two qualifying games, but their recent nil-nil home draw against Luxembourg was definitely a shocking result. Despite the recent struggle, France still sit at the top of the group A table with 17 points to their name after eight games, just one point clear of the second-placed Sweden. Away from home, France were on a four-game unbeaten streak across all competitions prior to their 2-1 defeat on the road in Sweden in their most recent away qualifier. The most worrying fact is that France are winless in the last four visits to Bulgaria, conceding two goals in each of these. Despite their struggle throughout this qualifying campaign, France still looked very well-organized at the back, having conceded just five goals in eight group fixtures. At the other end of the field, France managed a decent tally of 15 goals in this term. Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann have been France’s most prolific players throughout this qualifying campaign, as the pair bagged six goals and three assists between them.

France Team News

Paul Pogba, Laurent Koscielny, Benjamin Mendy and Ousmane Dembele are all out injured, while Djibril Sidibe and Layvin Kurzawa are both doubts.
