Bristol City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday (30th) evening (17:30) fixture features the top two in the Championship doing battle live on SKYTV. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Bristol City moved into second on Boxing Day with a 2-0 victory over Reading in front of their own fans. Jamie Paterson put them ahead after 68 minutes and a 90th minute Lloyd Kelly secured them all three points. Wolves were held at the Den by Millwall in an entertaining Boxing Day clash that finished in a 2-2 draw. Diogo Jota and Romain Saiss got the goals for Wanderers but a point for both was a fair result. The reverse fixture came in September at Molineux and it was a fun game that ended in a 3-3 draw. Leo Bonatini, Diogo Jota and Danny Batth netted for the Black Country outfit while Aden Flint, Bobby Reid and Famara Diedhou (penalty) bagged for the Robins.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Wolves have drawn a few lately but at these prices they must be backed despite the remarkable form Bristol City are in. I think the visitors are the class act in the division and can make this class show here. I think the Robins are capable of scoring so the visitors will likely have to score twice to come out on top so taking over 2.5 goals is also a sensible bet with the reverse fixture in September featuring six goals.

Bristol City Preview

The Robins continue their remarkable form going seven unbeaten in all competitions winning six of these. A side who were tipped for relegation by some are now in second place eight behind leaders Wolves and ahead of third place Cardiff on goal difference. At Ashton Gate, they have won their last three league games and last four in all competitions. Five of their last six in front of their own fans has ended 2-1 with the Robins coming out on top in four of these. Bristol City are the joint-second highest scorers in the Championship with 39 goals five behind Wolves with 44. They would be as low as ninth if the league was decided on 45 minute results with 12 of their 24 being level going into the break.

Bristol City Team News

Callum O’Dowda (ankle) is a long-term absentee while Gary O’Neil, Jens Hegeler, Ivan Lucic, Famara Diedhiou (all knee), Milan Djuric (groin) and Eros Pisano (hamstring) are all doubts.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

The Black Country outfit continue their run at the top of the table going ten unbeaten though two of the last four have finished all-square. Three of their next four fixtures are against sides in the top eight. Away from Molineux, they had won four straight without conceding a goal but last time out this ended with a 2-2 draw against Millwall. Wolves are among four sides to lead the league with 20 road goals while their defence has shipped a league low nine on their travels. The Midlands outfit have been behind just once going into the break and ahead 14 times from their last 24 played. Prior to the 2-2 draw their four games previously had produced a total of just three goals with Wolves netting them all.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Carl Ikeme (cancer) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (hip) are long-term absentees.
