Bristol City vs Swansea City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides looking to break into the top six at the end of the season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Bristol City booked their place in the FA Cup Fifth Round last time out with a 2-1 home success over Swansea with a goal each from Callum O’Dowda and Niclas Eliasson. It was their sixth straight victory in all competitions with last time out in the league them defeating Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground with a goal from Famara Diedhiou.

Swansea were in action on Tuesday night and they were involved in a 3-3 draw with Birmingham with goals from Daniel James and an Ollie McBurnie brace. Last weekend they were in the FA Cup and comfortably beat Gillingham 4-1 as Ollie McBurnie again netted twice while Bersant Celina and Barrie McKay got one each.

The reverse fixture came on August 25th and the Robins won that day thanks to an Andreas Weimann strike. It means that the last three head-to-heads have been won by the road side.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the match prices on offer here which suggests little between the teams but give due weight to the fact that Bristol City are at home and as such are the most likely winners.

I think the value can be found in backing the game to be level at half-time as this has happened in a remarkable 18 of 28 Robins matches this season. It has also been level going into the break in seven of 14 on the road for the Swans.

Ollie McBurnie has seven in his last four in all competitions and I think he can continue his rich vein of scoring form here so back him to net at any time.

Bristol City Preview

The Robins have won each of their last four fixtures in the league and are ten without a defeat. They have been strong at the back of late keeping clean sheets in three of their last four and shipping just three in their last six.

At Ashton Gate, City have won their last two and are unbeaten in any of their last five in the Championship. Four of the last five in front of their own fans have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Bristol City fixtures have not been the highest scoring with a total of just ten combined goals from their last six. Around 74% of their goals have come in the second-half with around 50% in the final 30 minutes.

Bristol City Team News

Niki Maenpaa (knock) and Marley Watkins (leg) are doubts while Korey Smith and Liam Walsh (both knee) are long-term absentees.

Swansea City Preview

The Swans are now five unbeaten in the Championship though three of these have ended in draws. They sit in 11th five points off the play-offs and face a key run with eight of their next 12 against teams currently in the top-half.

Away from the Liberty Stadium, the Welsh outfit have been a mixed bag with three wins, one draw and three defeats from their last seven. They have scored in each of their last seven on the road and a combined 13 times from these.

Three of the last five and eight of the last 12 Swansea have played in the league have gone over 2.5 goals. 60% of their goals this campaign have come after the break with 30% in the final 15 minutes.

Swansea City Team News

Joe Rondon (foot) is out for eight weeks while Martin Olsson (Achilles) has been ruled out for the season. Leroy Fer (hamstring), Kyle Naughton (knee), Wayne Routledge (calf) and Joel Asoro (illness) are all doubts.  Daniel James will be in the squad as the Welsh side changed their mind on selling him despite having let him do a medical at Leeds.
