Bristol City vs Stoke City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Bristol City made it back-to-back victories with a 1-0 home success over Hull in midweek thanks to a 93rd minute Famara Diedhiou effort. The result flattered City with anything their opponents being the better team.

Stoke battled out a point on the road to high-flying Sheffield United in midweek thanks to a late Joe Allen goal. A point was harsh on United who were much the better team with the Potters riding their luck to only have conceded one.

These two sides were in different divisions last season so you have to go back to 2007/08 to the last time they were in the same league. They did meet in 2017 in the League Cup a game the Robins won 2-0.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the prices on offer which make Bristol City favourites due to them being at home but suggest that they would be little to choose between these sides if the game was played at a neutral venue.

Both sides have scored around two-thirds of their goals in the second-half so back the second 45 minutes to be the highest scoring. This also leads to taking on an early goal in the fixture which is set at 29:00.

Bristol City Preview

The Robins are a streaky side who started the season with no win in three, won four straight, then went five without a victory and have now won two in a row. They sit eighth in the table and manager Lee Johnson is doing a decent job for them.

At Ashton Gate, they have won three of their last five league fixtures though just one of the last three. They have scored exactly one goal in each of their previous four at their own ground.

Nine of the 14 Bristol City league games have gone under 2.5 goals with six of them going under 1.5. Just one of their last four and four of their last 12 have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Bristol City Team News

The Robins have keeper issues with Frank Fielding (meningitis) and Niki Maenpaa (abductor strain) both out for a few weeks. Nathan Baker (head) is being monitored while Bailey Wright (quad), Mo Eisa and Hakeeb Adelakun (both ankle) are closing in on returns.  Eros Pisano (hip) is a few weeks from a return while Korey Smith (knee) is out until January.

Stoke City Preview

The Potters have been a mixed bag of late with two victories, two draws and two defeats from their last six. They sit down in 17th and Gary Rowett knows that he has to turn things around quick or face the sack.

Away from the Bet365 Stadium, they are unbeaten in four with three of these finishing all-square. The Staffordshire outfit have found the back of the net at least once in each of their last seven on the road.

It is an even split of seven games over 2.5 goals and seven games under 2.5 goals for Stoke in the league. Just one of their last four have seen both teams score but this is six of seven when just looking at away ties.

Stoke City Team News

Thibaud Verlinden (unknown), Peter Etebo, Mame Biram Diouf (both hamstring), Ibrahim Afellay and Sam Clucas (both knee) are doubts.
