Bristol City vs Queens Park Rangers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Bristol City put to an end a three-game losing run in the Championship with a goalless draw at Derby in their last league match. In midweek, they were in League Cup action and suffered a 3-2 defeat to Man City despite a goal each from Marlon Pack and Aiden Flint.

QPR were poor at home last time out losing 3-0 to Middlesbrough being two down after just 34 minutes. The expected goals data suggests though that the scoreline was a little harsh on the Rs.

The reverse fixture came on the 23rd December and it ended in a 1-1 draw with an Aiden Flint own-goal and a Bobby Reid penalty. It continues a trend that has seen the away side fail to win any of their last 16 head-to-heads.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bristol City might be a popular bet here but given their recent form and their adventure in the League Cup in midweek I could not bring myself to back them especially against a QPR side who seem to raise their game against the bigger teams.

Each of the Robins last three in the league and four of their last five have seen one or both teams fail to score. This is also true in three of their last five for the Rs so this looks a way into this game.

Given their exertions in midweek the hosts could tire while the visitors have seen most of their action in recent times in the second period so back the second 45 minutes to be the highest scoring half.

Bristol City Preview

The Robins have taken just one point from their last four league games and are without a win in seven in all competitions. They have fallen to fifth and are five points behind Derby in second.

At Ashton Gate, they have lost their last two but before that had won three straight league games. Five of their last seven in front of their own fans have finished 2-1 with City winning three and losing two.

Bristol City have managed to find the back of the net just four times in their last six in the league. 15 of their 28 and eight of 14 at home have been level going into the break.

Bristol City Team News

Frank Fielding (groin) and Callum O’Dowda (ankle) are doubts while Milan Djuric (groin) is a few weeks away from a return.

Queens Park Rangers Preview

Two victories, two draws and two defeats from their last six league games shows the stop start nature of the Rs season so far. They sit in 16th place and after 14 months in charge pressure is growing on manager Ian Holloway as the club seem stuck in neutral.

Away from Loftus Road, they have lost just one of their last four though none of their opponents were ranked higher than 12th. They have picked up just one point from their five road trips to top 12 sides this season.

Each of their last three and five of their last eight in the league have gone over 2.5 goals. In none of the last five QPR have played in the Championship they have been ahead going into the interval.

Queens Park Rangers Team News

David Wheeler (ankle), Jordan Cousins (hamstring) and Paul Smyth (thigh) are doubts while Jamie Mackie (back surgery) is a long-term absentee.
