Bristol City vs Norwich City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Bristol City put in a spirited showing in midweek before going down 2-1 to Man City in the League Cup with a Bobby Reid penalty giving them hope for the second leg. They lost 3-0 in the FA Cup at the weekend to Watford and before that on New Year’s Day lost 5-0 away to Aston Villa. Norwich battled out a replay at Stamford Bridge in their FA Cup Third Round match having drawn 0-0 at home to Chelsea. In the league, they last played on New Year’s Day and defeated Millwall 2-1 thanks to a goal each from Tom Trybull and James Maddison. The reverse fixture came in September at Carrow Road and that game ended in a goalless draw. It means it is now five undefeated in head-to-head meetings for the East Anglian outfit.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bristol City have won four of their last six at home and Norwich have lost four of their last six on the road so the price on offer on a home victory looks a steal here. True, the Robins played in midweek but the Canaries also look to be selling influential midfielder Alex Pritchard and this will impact them. Korey Smith only has one goal this season but will be hungry to do well against a Norwich side who he started his career at. The Robins midfielder has a good shot and finds himself in the right positions and the goals could start coming soon.

Bristol City Preview

The Robins have lost their last four in all competitions and the last two in the league and they have slide down to fourth. These defeats did come to Wolves and Aston Villa so they should not be too disappointed and they have four of their next five against teams in the bottom-half. At Ashton Gate, they have won three of their last four and seven of their 13 in the league this season. Five of their last six in front of their own fans has ended in a 2-1 scoreline with City winning three of these. The 40 goals they have scored this season gives them the joint-third best attacking record in the division. 13 of the 26 league fixtures they have played this season have been level going into the break.

Bristol City Team News

Callum O’Dowda (ankle) is listed as day-to-day while Milan Djuric (groin) is a few weeks away from a return.

Norwich City Preview

It was a decent festive period for the Canaries who picked up seven points from their four games going unbeaten in the last three. They are in 13th place and have halted an alarming run which had seen them win just one of ten and slide down the table. Away from Carrow Road, they have picked up four points in their last two but this did come against teams in the bottom three. Prior to that they had lost four straight netting just twice in these ties. The 26 league goals that Norwich have scored this season is the fourth lowest amount in the Championship. Just eight of the 28 goals that they have scored this campaign have come in the first-half.

Norwich City Team News

Louis Thompson (Achilles), Matt Jarvis (ankle), Harrison Reed (hip) and Marco Stiepermann (groin) are all doubts.
