Bristol City vs Middlesbrough Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday evening (17:30) game is live on SKYTV and will have implications at the top of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Bristol City fought back from two down to come out on top 3-2 and claim all three points at Hull. Aden Flint, Bobby Reid and Josh Brownhill got the goals to give the Robins a somewhat fortunate victory according to the expected goals data. Middlesbrough will be aiming to bounce back after a poor showing last time out as they suffered a 3-0 home loss to Derby. The scoreline was a little harsh on Boro who failed to bring their shooting boots while also running into a firing Matej Vydra. These two teams last met 2015/16 league season with the Robins winning both games by the same 1-0 scoreline. In fact, City have won each of their last four head-to-heads and are unbeaten in five.

Betting Tips and Previews

It is hard to argue with the prices on offer which suggest that there is little to separate these two teams and this seems about right after almost a third of the season played. Instead, look away from the match markets to find your bets. Both teams have had some bad starts in recent fixtures and I expect this to impact on how they approach the match. I think that both will start cautious and not want to be out of the game so take advantage of this by backing no goal to come before 30:00 and the second-half to be the highest scoring 45 minutes.

NO goal before 30:00

Bristol City Preview

Victory over Hull last time out put to an end a two-game run without a victory and was their fourth success in their last six in the league. This is the start of a tricky run of matches that sees three league games against top-ten sides and a League Cup clash with Man United. At Ashton Gate, they have struggled a little of late with defeats to Preston and Leeds and a draw with Burton from their last four (the other was a victory over Cardiff). These home matches have produced exactly three goals in the last three with just two of them seeing both teams score. Four of the last six goals that they have scored have come in the second-half and three in the final 15 minutes. In just one of their last four and two of their last seven have Bristol City kept a first-half clean sheet.

Bristol City Team News

Joe Bryan (hip), Gary O’Neil, Jens Hegeler, Ivan Lucic and Famara Diedhiou (all knee) are doubts as is Eros Pisano (hamstring). Callum O’Dowda (ankle) is set to miss the next few months.

Middlesbrough Preview

It is now two defeats in three for Boro that has put a little bit of a dent in their promotion hopes. Their next two are against sides in the top ten while three of their next four are on the road. Away from the Riverside Stadium, they have lost just one of their last six though three of these have ended in a draw with victories over struggling Hull and Reading. Four of their last five on their travels have seen both teams score with three of these going over 2.5 goals. Britt Assombalonga has scored the last three Middlesbrough goals and has six in the last in eight the Championship. Five of the last seven they have conceded have come in the second-half and two of them in the last 20 minutes.

Middlesbrough Team News

Rudy Gestede (thigh) is closing in on a return to the first-team squad. Jonny Howson is available after suspension.
