Bristol City vs Middlesbrough Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features the current league leaders on the road to a side still seeking their first victory.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. After good League Cup run last season Bristol City will have been disappointed to exit the competition at the first time of asking going down 1-0 at home to Plymouth on Tuesday evening. In the league, they last faced Bolton and they fought back from two down to claim a point in a 2-2 draw. Middlesbrough were also in League Cup action on Tuesday night and they needed penalties to progress over Notts County having drawn 3-3 in regular time with Ashley Fletcher grabbing a brace. They won their last league game 1-0 defeating Birmingham with a Britt Assombalonga goal proving to be the difference. The two meetings between these sides last season ended in 2-1 victories for the side who was at home. The Robins though have won five of the last six head-to-heads between the sides.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bookmakers are having trouble splitting the pair with at the time of writing the home side slight favourites. I think a draw looks a good play here as it has happened in each of the last three on the road for Middlesbrough and four of the last five at all grounds in the league for Bristol City. If the game is to end all-square then a scoring draw looks the most likely play as both teams have scored in the last four Robins league games and seven of the last eight on the road for the Teesiders.

Bristol City Preview

The Robins have started the season slowly with two draws in the league and a defeat in the League Cup. If you consider last season it is now no league victory in their last six with four of the last five finishing all-square. At Ashton Gate, they are four without a victory in all competitions and have won just one of their previous six. City have failed to shut out any of the six previous visitors to their own ground. Each of the last three and six of the last seven Bristol City championship matches have seen both teams find the back of the net. Andreas Weimann has started well since his move from Derby and has two in two league appearances.

Bristol City Team News

They have no registered injuries or suspensions ahead of this fixture.

Middlesbrough Preview

Boro sit top of the Championship table with two victories and one draw from their three fixtures played. They are seven unbeaten in the division if you are just looking at regular season matches. Away from the Riverside, they are unbeaten in four (including the play-offs) with each of the last three ending in a draw. Six of the last seven and seven of the last eight the Teesiders have played on the road have seen both teams net. Martin Braithwaite has started the season well and has netted in two of three fixtures played. Middlesbrough have come out the blocks quick in their last two in the league netting a total of four times in the opening 45 minutes.

Middlesbrough Team News

Dael Fry (unknown), Harry Chapman (shoulder), Rudy Gestede (ankle) and Jordan Hugill (knock) are all expected to miss out.
