Bristol City vs Ipswich Town Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides just outside the play-offs hoping to make a little run to break into the top six.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Bristol City have now won just one of their last eight following a goalless draw last time out with Burton.  The expected goals data suggests that the Robins were a little lucky to claim a point from the encounter.

Ipswich suffered a comprehensive 3-0 home defeat at home to Hull on Tuesday evening to put a dent in their play-off aspirations.  The Tractor Boys found themselves one down after 18 minutes and three behind after 47 and could find no way back.

The reverse fixture came at the end of September at Portman Road and the visitors won that one 3-1.  Josh Brownhill, Famara Diedhiou and Bobby Reid got the goals for City with Martyn Waghorn netting a consolation for Town.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The Robins are far too short to win this game given they have dropped points to Burton and Sunderland in recent weeks and are up against a solid if unspectacular mid-table outfit in Ipswich.  Back the visitors along with the draw in the double chance market.

Given Bristol City have only failed to score in one of their last 11 at home and the Tractor Boys have netted in their last six on the road backing both teams to score also looks a sensible play.

Bristol City Preview

The Robins are struggling for form currently and have taken just 11 points from their last 13 league fixtures.  They do still have hope though as they do not face a top eight side in their next five.

At Ashton Gate, they are unbeaten in their last four winning two of these and drawing the other two.  Seven of the last 11 they have played in front of their own fans have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Bobby Reid has netted four times in his last two appearances at Ashton Gate and five times in the last six at all grounds.  Around 48% of the goals City have scored this season have come in the 15 minutes prior to half-time or full-time.

Bristol City Team News

Aden Flint and Joe Bryan will miss the game through suspension.  Nathan Baker, Milan Djuric (groin) and Jens Hegeler (knee) are doubts while Matty Taylor (hernia) and Callum O’Dowda (ankle) are long-term absentees.

Ipswich Town Preview

The Tractor Boys saw their three-game unbeaten run come to an end in midweek and they are now in 12th place and nine points from the play-offs.  Three of their next four are against teams just above them in the table and represent a chance to close the gap.

Away from Portman Road, they are unbeaten in their last five in the league winning three of these.  The Suffolk side have conceded just three times from their last five appearances on the road.

Just two of the last 11 league matches Ipswich have played have gone over 2.5 goals with four of the last going under 1.5 goals.  Around 67% of their goals have come in the second 45 minutes.

Ipswich Town Team News

Dominic Iorfa (thigh) and Mustapha Carayol (groin) are rated doubtful. Tom Adeyemi, Teddy Bishop (both hamstring), Dean Gerken (hip), Emyr Huws and Andre Dozzell (both knee) are long-term absentees.  David McGoldrick (groin) is unlikely to feature again this season.
