Bristol City vs Birmingham City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) fixture features two sides in need of points at opposite ends of the table.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Bristol City made it back-to-back defeats last time out going down 2-0 on the road to Millwall.  The Robins could have few complaints about the result in a game they were second best in.

Birmingham stretched their unbeaten run to four fixtures though will have been disappointed with a 1-1 draw at home to Burton.  The Blues dominated the game yet needed an 87th minute Lukas Jutkiewicz goal to rescue a point.

The reverse fixture came back in August and and the Midlands side won it 2-1 thanks to goals from Craig Gardner and Jacques Maghoma.  Bobby Reid netted the only goal for the Robins who are winless in their last 14 head-to-heads.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bristol City have won just one of their last 12 while Birmingham are undefeated in four taking ten points from these fixtures.  This means that the visitors along with the draw in the double chance market look the value call.

The Robins will know that a draw here will not do them any good so this will force their hand in the second-half and as such could open the game up for the Blues on the counter-attack so back the second 45 minutes to be the highest scoring.

Bristol City Preview

The Robins have now won just two of their last 12 and three in their last 17 as they have slipped out of the top six.  They sit in eighth place four points behind Middlesbrough in sixth with five game remaining.

At Ashton Gate, defeat to Brentford put to an end a run five without defeat though they have still lost just three of their last 11 in front of their own fans.  Each of their last three and five of their last seven at their own ground have seen just one side net.

55% of the goals that Bristol City have netted this season have come in the second-half with 25% in the final 15 minutes.  Their last five fixtures have produced a total of just eight goals with four of these coming in one match.

Bristol City Team News

Hordur Magnusson (knock) and Matty Taylor (hernia) are doubts.

Birmingham City Preview

The Blues have taken ten points from their last four fixtures a run that has moved them out of the bottom three.  They are in 20th place one point above Bolton in 21st and three above Barnsley in 22nd who have a game in hand.

Away from St Andrew’s, they won their last road trip which put to an end a run of four straight defeats on their travels.  Three of their last four and four of their last six on the road have gone over 2.5 goals.

If the Championship table was decided on results after 45 minutes then Birmingham would be as high as 16th.  Lukas Jutkiewicz has found the net in each of his last two domestic appearances.

Birmingham City Team News

Carl Jenkinson (knock), Sam Gallagher (calf) and Craig Gardener (hamstring) are doubts while Isaac Vassell (cruciate) is a long-term absentee.  Che Adams will miss the game through suspension.
