Bristol City vs Barnsley Match Prediction

Bristol City v Barnsley Predictions & Betting Tips

This Championship games takes place on Saturday afternoon (15:00) and features two sides who finished in the bottom half of the table last season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. These two are expected by bookmakers to be on for a season of struggle with both in the lower half of the betting market. City are expected to be in a mid-table battle which they will settle for after pushing close to relegation last time out while the Tykes are expected to struggle this season though they were expected to do so last season and survived well. Three of the last four meetings between this duo have ended all-square with the other going to the Robins in this fixture last season. That game saw the Yorkshire side twice take the lead through Alex Mowatt and George Moncur but goals from Tammy Abraham, Jamie Paterson and Aden Flint ensured City took all three points.

Betting Tips & Predictions

With both these having troubles at the back it is unlikely these issues will have been fixed straight away over the summer and this could lend itself to goals. I like the look of over 2.5 goals and YES in the both teams to score market. In addition, go for YES in the both teams to score in the second-half market as tired legs will produce mistakes on the opening day of the season.

Bristol City Preview

It was an up and down season that saw City looking like promotion hopefuls in October and relegation candidates in March before settling into a final finishing position for the season of 17th. The return to the Premier League of loanee Tammy Abraham and the sale of Lee Tomlin to Cardiff means the Robins need to look elsewhere for goalscoring. They have invested heavily in Famara Diedhiou a Senegalese striker from Ligue 1. One of the biggest things the Robins must improve upon is the number of goals they conceded though Nathan Baker looks a shrewd addition to the back-line from Aston Villa. 25 of their 46 fixtures last season went over 2.5 goals with just one game ending goalless.

Bristol City Team News

Nathan Baker will miss this game through suspension

Barnsley Preview

Although Barnsley finished 14th last season they were never in danger of relegation and before the sale of a few key players in the January transfer window looked like they could push into the top six. It was a remarkable campaign under Paul Heckingbottom who perhaps did not get the credit he deserved working on such a small budget. This season the Tykes will continue with their policy of taking on top young talents with big resale potential. Fomer Premier League players Zeki Fryers and Lloyd Isgrove join the likes of League Two talent Cameron McGeehan in a newly shaped squad. The Yorkshire side were one of the more entertaining outfits last season with an average of 2.85 goals per fixture which was seventh highest in the Championship last season. They need to tighten up at the back to progress this season as they had the fourth lowest ranked defence last time out.

Barnsley Team News

Cameron McGeehan is a doubt with a leg injury.
