Bristol City vs Aston Villa Match Prediction

By Phill Barrs

This Friday evening (19:45) Championship game from Ashton Gate is also live on Sky Sports TV. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Bristol City were held to their second successive draw in their last league game as their home game with Millwall finished 0-0. In the League Cup, they defeated Premier League Watford 3-2 at Vicarage Road with a goal each from Freddie Hinds, Bobby Reid and Niclas Eliasson. Aston Villa put to an end a troubling start with an emphatic 4-2 victory over Norwich thanks to a hat-trick from Conor Hourihane and a goal from Andre Green. In the League Cup, they also hit four defeating Wigan 4-1 with a brace from Scott Hogan and one each from Albert Adomah and Birkir Bjarnason. It finished honours even with the home side winning each of their encounters last season. The Robins won at Ashton Gate 3-1 while at Villa Park it was the Midlands side who won that one 2-1.

Betting Tips and Predictions

That 4-2 victory might encourage Steve Bruce to play with the handbrake off so over 2.5 goals could be the way to play. A 0-0 with Millwall was hard fought but a different style here will allow the Robins to play their more natural attacking game. Over 2.5 goals looks the way forward with the match market looking tough to call. Finding a goalscorer is trickier, for City Bobby Reid looks the man in form while for Villa Conor Hourihane looks great from midfield. The bet though is Keinan Davis who ripped Norwich apart last weekend and was unlucky not to score. I expect him to rectify that this time around.

Bristol City Preview

It is now two draws in a row for Bristol City and for the season it has been one win, two draws and one defeat from four games. In the league, they sit in 11th place going into this round of fixtures though obviously, the league is still in an early form. At home, they are on a good run of form if you look at the end of last season and the start of this one with five victories, three draws and just one defeat from their last nine. Five of their last seven in front of their own fans have gone over 2.5 goals. Bobby Reid has already grabbed four league goals for the season with three of these coming in the opening 30 minutes. Each of their last three in the Championship have seen somewhere net in the last ten minutes.

Aston Villa Preview

After a disappointing start to the season where they had taken just one point from three games Villa caught fire last time out putting Norwich to the sword. This marks the first game in a run of seven fixtures where they face just one of the top eight sides in the ante-post betting market. On the road, this season they have lost 2-1 to Reading and 3-0 to Cardiff and are without a win in five on their travels. A feature of their away matches is exactly two or three goals which is happened in eight of the last 11. Conor Hourihane has netted four times in the last two games with Agbonlahor and Green converting their other two this season. Each of their last three in the league has seen a goal in the final 20 minutes.

Aston Villa Team News

Mile Jedinak (groin) is back in training while Gabby Agbonlahor (back), Jack Grealish (hip) and Joshua Onomah (head) are out injured. Influential striker Jonathan Kodjia with a broken ankle is set to miss another month.
