Brighton & Hove Albion vs Wigan Athletic Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday afternoon game (15:00) will have implications at both ends of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

It has been honours even from the last six meetings between the pair with three wins for Brighton and three wins for Wigan. The reverse fixture back in October was won 1-0 by the Seagulls thanks to a goal from Dale Stephens.

It was a fourth successive victory last time out for Brighton who defeated Wolves 2-0 at Molineux. They had Anthony Knockaert to thanks for this result as he grabbed a brace with one in either half of the game to help them secure three points.

Wigan kept alive their slim play-off hopes thanks to a 3-2 success over Barnsley last time out. They had Nick Powell to thank for this as he came off the bench to fire in an 11th minute hat-trick to help them come back from two down.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I actually think this could be a more open game than the bookmakers think.  Brighton are almost certainly in the Premier League next season and can confirm this in all but goal-difference with a victory here in front of their own fans. Wigan need to win this game and must push for goals while the Seagulls are as adapt as any team in the division at breaking with numbers.  Take the game to have over 2.5 goals as happened in four of the last five Brighton home matches and each of the last four for Wigan and also YES in the both teams to score market.

Brighton Preview

It is four straight victories for Brighton and six from their last seven as they are ending the season in style. Victory here would put them on 92 points which is the highest Huddersfield can reach and the Seagulls have a 31 goal difference advantage so in reality it would also secure their place in the Premier League next season.

At the Amex, the South Coast side have won 11 from their last 13 and have suffered just two league defeats this season with those coming against Newcastle and Brentford. This game is one of two remaining home fixtures they have with the other coming against Bristol City.

Seven of their last ten games have gone over 2.5 goals including each of the last three. The Seagulls have kept a clean sheet in just three of their last seven in front of their own fans. Glenn Murray has found the back of the net in each of their last four home ties.

Wigan Preview

Back-to-back victories has given Wigan some hope that they can stay up. The problem is though that all the teams around them are still winning and with four games to go they still sit five points adrift from safety.

The Latics certainly have to win two (and possibly more) of their four remaining games and the fixtures are not easy with this game against Brighton one of three remaining ones they have against teams in the top six.

Each of the last four Wigan games have gone over 2.5 goals with their last two producing a total of ten goals. On the road, the Lancashire side have only failed to score in two of their last seven. Nick Powell has scored four goals from the last two fixtures.

Brighton Team News

Shane Duffy (foot) and Connor Goldson (heart) are the only long-term absentees for Brighton.

Wigan Team News

Luke Garbutt (back) is listed as day-to-day while Dan Lavercombe (finger), Donervon Daniels (knee) and Andy Kellett (also knee) are unlikely to feature. Also, unlikely to return before the end of the season are strikers Omar Bogle (concussion) and Will Grigg (knee).
