Brighton & Hove Albion vs Watford Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Brighton and Hove Albion host Watford at the Amex Stadium on 23/12/17 as both teams look to return to winning ways. Brighton drew 0-0 at home to Burnley last time out, as Watford were humbled in a 4-1 defeat at home to Huddersfield. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Brighton have been reliant on their home form so far this season, while Watford have gained a reputation of being a team better away from home. That said, Watford’s defeat last weekend was a real blow and I’m expecting a Brighton win here.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

Goals may not have arrived at the Amex Stadium last time out, but Brighton managed to end their losing run with a 0-0 draw at home to high-flyers Burnley. Having shipped nine goals in their three defeats in the build-up to the weekend’s contest, there was a clear emphasis on defensive organisation from Chris Hughton’s men, who made sure not to lose the game as opposed to going out to win it. The point leaves the Seagulls 13th in the table heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures, though there is the chance they could end the weekend in the bottom three - albeit an unlikely chance - should their own and other results go against them. Brighton have failed to win in any of their last seven league games, taking just three points during that time, putting them second-bottom in the form table over that time, with only fellow-promoted side Newcastle in a worse stretch of form. Despite losing just two of their home Premier League games so far this season, they have drawn no fewer than five of their nine games at the Amex, with it important they begin turning those draws into wins. The lack of a genuine goalscorer is continuing to haunt this side, with that being an area of the team Hughton may look to address in the January transfer window.

Brighton & Hove Albion Team News

Steve Sidwell (back) is out injured, while Shane Duffy is suspended.

Watford Preview

Watford’s dismal form continued last weekend, as they fell to a 4-1 defeat at home to Huddersfield Town to further extend their plight down the Premier League table. Elliot Kachunga struck to give Huddersfield the lead just six minutes in at Vicarage Road, while Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre both netted either side of half-time to put David Wagner’s men in a commanding position. Abdoulaye Doucoure pulled one back for Watford shortly after Jonathan Hogg was sent off, but Mooy scored from the penalty spot just before full-time to further compound the Hornets’ misery. Marco Silva’s side have now lost three in a row in the Premier League, a sequence of results that has now seen them drop down to 10th in the table. In total, Watford have lost four and drawn one of their last five Premier League games, while they have lost four of five away from home following a superb start to the season on the road. Perhaps one of the few saving graces for the Hornets comes in the fact that Brighton are also in poor form at this moment in time, with neither team particularly flying with confidence.

Watford Team News

Younes Kaboul, Will Hughes (both hamstring), Craig Cathcart and Nathaniel Chalobah (both knee) are all ruled out here. Marvin Zeegelaar, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Troy Deeney are all suspended.
