Brighton & Hove Albion vs Southampton Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Brighton and Hove Albion face Southampton at the Amex Stadium on 29/10/17 in an all-south coast Premier League clash this weekend. Brighton were excellent as they beat West Ham 3-0 on Friday night, while Southampton edged past West Brom 1-0 thanks to a moment of magic. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Both teams have picked up in recent weeks, each finding themselves sat comfortably in mid table at this moment in time. With the onus on Brighton to break the away side down, I’m expecting the tactical nature of this fixture to suit Southampton, who I’m backing to get the three points.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

Friday was perhaps the most satisfying night’s work Brighton have enjoyed since winning promotion to the Premier League after comfortably seeing off West Ham United with a 3-0 victory at the London Stadium. Glenn Murray headed the Seagulls in front after just ten minutes, with Jose Izquierdo’s excellent strike making it 2-0 after he beat Joe Hart from distance. Murray was then afforded the opportunity to bag his brace from the penalty spot fifteen minutes from time, converting confidently to help his team move up to 12th in the Premier League table and bag his first two goals of the campaign. Brighton’s last top-flight away win came back in February 1983 and the team had taken only one point from a possible twelve heading into their clash at the London Stadium. Should the remaining three quarters of the season transpire in a similar fashion to this opening one, Brighton would be on course to achieving the magic 40 points which has historically become the benchmark for guaranteeing Premier League survival over recent years. Unbeaten in their last three games at the Amex Stadium, they are also establishing themselves as a strong side at home - something they will have to do if they are to achieve their goal as retaining their Premier League status.

Steve Sidwell (back) is Brighton’s only injury absentee ahead of this fixture.

Southampton Preview

Southampton’s meeting with West Brom fitted a typical cliche with five minutes left to play, with either a piece of luck or moment of magic needed to find a way past a stubborn West Brom defence - fortunately for Mauricio Pellegrino, the latter occurred.. Only one team ever looked like winning the game at St. Mary’s, with the hosts having by far the better of the game and they were rewarded for their attacking persistence when Sofiane Boufal netted a goal of the season contender five minutes from time. The Moroccan picked the ball up inside his own half and glided mast multiple Baggies defenders, before calmly placing the ball inside Ben Foster’s far post. A moment such as that can inspire a turnaround of fortunes, something Pellegrino will be desperate to see after ending their three-match wait for a win last time out. Southampton’s defensive abilities have never been in question, already keeping four clean sheets from their first nine games, but will now hope to see greater consistency from the likes of Boufal in attack to see them really compete for a place in the top-eight. With just one away defeat in their last five, they will be confident of picking up a result this upcoming weekend.

Manager Mauricio Pellegrino has a fully-fit squad to choose from this weekend.
