Brighton & Hove Albion vs Sheffield Wednesday Match Prediction

Brighton and Hove Albion v Sheffield Wednesday Match Preview

It should be an entertaining battle on Friday night when the Sky Sports TV cameras showcase two of the promotional hopefuls as Brighton entertain Sheff Wed (19:45). Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats

Brighton suffered their first league defeat since September last time out as they went down 2-0 at Preston thanks to goals from Paul Huntington and Callum Robinson with Tomer Hemed missing a penalty for the Seagulls.

Wednesday meanwhile continued their recent run of good form with a 2-0 victory over high-flying Huddersfield thanks to goals from Ross Wallace and Fernando Forestieri.

It was the 1st October when these sides met in the reverse fixture at Hillsborough with Brighton coming out on top 2-1 thanks to goals from Sam Baldock and Anthony Knockaert, Gary Hooper netted a late consolation for the Owls.

Brighton Preview

The Seagulls have the best-ranked home form in the division with nine wins from their 12 games (drawing two and losing one). In six home matches against sides in the top half of the table only Preston have claimed a point at Brighton.

One of the features of games at the Amex is clean sheets with only four of the 12 sides to have visited their this season managing to find the net past this well drilled Seagulls unit. Chris Hughton has a side who do not struggle to score goals either with an average of just over two per game at home.

Brighton are a difficult side to work out in the over/under market as six of 12 of their home fixtures have gone under and the other six over. In recent weeks though overs have won out with four of their last five at all grounds going over.

Glenn Murray to score anytime 6/4

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

It is now six games unbeaten for Wednesday winning four of these. In fact, they have just one defeat from their last ten matches in the Championship a run that has seen them to sixth in the division.

Away from home the Owls are not so strong with just four wins on the road this season and just one victory from their eight away fixtures at sides in the top half of the table.

The Yorkshire team are not ones to side with for overs backers as ten of their 13 away ties this season have gone under 2.5 goals and none of their last six league at all grounds have gone over.

Brighton Team News

Chris Hughton will hope for positive injury news this week on missing duo Seb Pocognoli (thigh) and Dale Stephens (illness).

Sheffield Wednesday Team News

Sam Winnall came off the bench last time out for his Owls debut and may be handed the start here. The Owls will be looking for good news on injured quartet Marco Matias (groin), Filipe Melo (knee), Urby Emanuelson (ankle) and Will Buckley (shoulder).  Kieran Lee (hip) though will miss the rest of the season.

Betting Tips and Prediction

You could probably make a realistic argument for all three prices here. Brighton have a great home record, Wednesday good recent form while the draw might suit two safety first managers.

With the match markets so tough to call I prefer looking elsewhere to find the value in this game. Take NO goal before the 33rd minute as this has been the case in each of the last six Sheff Wed games. This also means that the 0-0 draw at half-time looks worth an interest as again this has happened in each of the last six Owls fixtures.

Brighton draw no bet 3/10
