Brighton & Hove Albion vs Reading Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

The Saturday tea-time game (17:30) features two of the top four sides in the division in what should be an entertaining battle with implications on the promotion race. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

This will be the third time this season that the sides have met. They faced each other in the League Cup in September at Brighton and Reading came out on top 2-1 thanks to goals from Stephen Quinn and John Swift. Despite Tyler Blackett being sent-off Brighton could only get one goal against the ten men which came from Tomer Hemed. The league encounter in August ended 2-2 with John Swift giving the Royals an early lead before the Seagulls got a goal each from Sam Baldock and Anthony Knockaert.  Paul McShane netted against for the Berkshire outfit to help them secure a point.

It is three goals in three games for Sam Baldock who grabbed a brace last time out as Brighton defeated Barnsley 2-0 at Oakwell to put behind a mini-slump on the road.

Reading were a little unlucky to go down 1-0 to promotion rivals Huddersfield in midweek with a Philip Billing goal proving the difference between the sides.

Betting Tips and Predictions

As impressive as Brighton have been this season I think the prices dictate your bet here and that is to side with Reading somewhere who are being dismissed far too easily for the fourth best side in the division. You can get them at a generous price on the draw/double chance market so that looks the way to proceed.

For a player who scored three games ago the price on Jordan Mutch seems too high in the goalscorer market. The on-loan midfielder netted seven a few seasons ago in the Premier League and looks worth an interest to shine here in front of the TV cameras.

Brighton Preview

It is now four games unbeaten for Brighton though they have taken all three points on just two of five occasions. They sit in second but can not afford to take their foot off the gas with Huddersfield just four points behind them in third place.

The Seagulls have the best home form in the division losing on just one occasion and winning 11 of 15. They have beaten all six of their top nine visitors to the Amex Stadium.

Over 2.5 goals has happened in three of their last five games and the other two have seen exactly two goals. At home, Brighton have kept a clean sheet in in just one of their last four. Eight of the last 11 goals for the South Coast side have came in the second half.

Reading Preview

Defeat at Huddersfield in midweek put to an end a run of six games without defeat for Reading. They are now in fourth place which puts them eight points behind Brighton which is not an impossible gap to pull back but seems improbable.

The Royals are the seventh best away team though they have won just one of their last five on the road in all competitions. They also struggle at bigger sides losing all four of their trips to teams in the top seven.

The Berkshire side tend to be involved in high scoring games with 18 of their 32 this season going over 2.5 goals though just three of their last seven have gone over this mark. Both teams to score would have paid in four of their last six away league fixtures. Four of their last five have seen a goal netted in the last 15 minutes.
