Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Brighton face Manchester City at the AMEX Stadium on 12/08/17 as the hosts get a tough introduction to life in the Premier League. Brighton’s solitary aim this season will be to stay in the division by any means necessary, while City will feel anything other than the Premier League title will be a disappointment. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Manchester City have proven to be perennial quick-starters in the Premier League, most notably last season where they won in Pep Guardiola’s first ten games in all competitions. It’s a tough ask for Brighton to get a result in this fixture and I’m expecting City to secure a convincing win.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

Brighton finally broke the once seemingly indestructible barrier to the Premier League last season, winning automatic promotion from the Championship via a 2nd-placed finish. The Seagulls have had the infrastructure of a Premier League club for a number of years now, with the stadium in particular deserving of a side in the top flight. Despite bringing in five new additions this summer, Chris Hughton appears to have elected to go with much of the same from last season, giving his promotion-winning side the opportunity to prove themselves at the top level. As admirable a policy as that may be, it’s a huge risk considering the limited Premier League experience currently in the side, particularly in attacking areas where star men Anthony Knockaert, Sam Baldock and Glenn Murray are all unproven at this level. That could be where they find the most issues this season, with chances often coming at a premium in the Premier League compared to the Championship.

Brighton & Hove Albion Team News

Brighton will be sweating on the fitness of Anthony Knockaert who still has an ankle problem, although Sam Baldock (calf) should be fit. Solly March (knee) is set to miss out for the home side.

Manchester City Preview

Pep Guardiola’s eyes will be firmly on the Premier League prize coming into this season, with nothing other than a title win being considered a success at the Etihad. In truth, City never really put forth a serious challenge for the title from the midway point of last season onwards, with it fair to say that Guardiola’s arrival was pretty anti-climactic in reflection. Their downfall last season proved to be in defence, something they wasted little time in addressing by signing goalkeeper Ederson, as well as three new full-backs in Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy. Despite finishing 3rd last year, City have been priced with most bookies as the favourites to win the Premier League title this season, with real expectancy falling on Guardiola’s shoulders to deliver both domestically in Europe. In terms of attacking options, City boast an embarrassment of riches, with the likes of Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva all bound to combine for goals this term.

Manchester City Team News

Manchester City have a clean bill of health heading into this game, with new signings Ederson, Kyle Walker, Danilo, Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva all hoping to make their debuts.
