Brighton & Hove Albion vs Leeds United Match Prediction

By Darren Colebrook

The live Friday night game in the Championship this week is a real (Christmas) cracker (sorry) as second placed Brighton entertain Leeds who sit in fourth.  The home side closed the gap on Newcastle to just one point despite a goalless draw with Cardiff in their previous game.  Leeds meanwhile handed Steve Bruce his first loss as Aston Villa manager thanks to a Kemar Roofe strike in the 68th minute and then a late Chris Wood goal which saw them emerge as 2-0 victors.

The Seagulls had the bulk of the possession and the chances in their last game but could not breakdown a stubborn Cardiff side.  Chris Hughton was philosophical about the point and instead took the positive which saw a clean sheet (their third straight in away games) and another point.  Brighton are now 13 games unbeaten in the Championship and have won seven of their ten league home games this season. Though this number alarmingly comes down to just two of five in home games against sides in the top half.
Glenn Murray will be key as remarkably all 11 of his goals this season have come in home games.

Glenn Murray to score 5/4 here

Leeds preview

Only a few months ago Gary Monk seemed like he would be next in line as a manager who had gone to Leeds and failed.  Now the club are up into fourth and have now won five of their last six games in the Championship.  Away from home should not worry the Yorkshire side as they sit second in the away table with five wins from nine games including victories at Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday.  They did though lose 4-0 at Brighton last season and have lost their last three away to Brighton but this is a different Leeds side under Gary Monk this season.

Betting tips and predictions

An initial look at the match odds suggested to me that Brighton were some value that was before closer inspection revealed just two home wins in five games to top half sides.  It makes sense then to swerve the match betting and look for value elsewhere.

I think in a game with two proven goalscorers in Glenn Murray and Chris Wood then it makes sense to play both on the scorers market. Murray as stated before loves playing at home and has eight goals in his last six home games while Wood has four in his last five games.

Glenn Murray anytime scorer at 5/4

Chris Wood anytime scorer at 2/1
