Brighton & Hove Albion vs Derby County Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This live Sky game on Friday evening (19:45) will have implications at the top of the Championship as both sides seek an important three points. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

The three previous meetings between the pair have ended drawn including when they met in the reverse fixture on the opening day of the season.  It was an even encounter that day with Brighton shading possession and Derby having more shots on target.

The Seagulls got back to winning ways last time out with a 2-0 victory at bottom of the table Rotherham. Anthony Knockaert and Soloman Marsh got the goals that enabled them to close the gap on Newcastle at the top.

Derby were held at home by Preston in their last encounter which took place on Tuesday evening. Matej Vydra gave the Rams the lead before a strike deep injury time from Tom Barkhuizen rescued a point for North End.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I could not bring myself to back Brighton at those odds as I would need to see more than a victory over Rotherham to be sure they are back while I can not be sure of the motivation level of Derby as they are some ten points off the play-offs.

Instead, take a play on a couple of anytime goalscorers with Sam Baldock being the first recommendation. He has six in their last 11 home games and looks decent odds here against a Derby side with just one clean sheet from their last nine on the road.  Derby should also be able to find the back of the net and David Nugent looks the play.  He netted in his penultimate start and he was amongst the action last time out while not firing a goal.

I would not put anyone off these players in the first scorer market but with two strong options, it might be better to stick to the simple anytime bets.

Brighton Preview

A victory last time out for Brighton put to an end a run of two straight defeats and got their promotion chase back on track. They sit in second place going into the weekend fixtures six points above Huddersfield in third (who have a game in hand) and three behind Newcastle.

It is just one win from their last three games at the Amex with Newcastle beating them here and Ipswich claiming a point.  The Seagulls though are the best home side in the division with 13 victories from their 18 games.

Exactly two or three goals has been scored in each of their last six at all grounds. Each of their last five matches has seen one team fail to find the back of the net. Ten of the last 12 goals in their fixtures have come in the last 45 minutes.

Derby Preview

Just one win from their last eight games means that the play-off hopes of Derby are over for another season. They sit tenth in the table and ten points behind Sheffield Wednesday in sixth with just ten matches remaining.

On the road, it is just one win from their last seven league fixtures with these three points coming at Ipswich. Lack of goals is a problem away from home with them failing to find the net in five of their last six.

Derby away ties tend to not produce many goals with five of their last six ending 1-0. It has been 0-0 at half-time in four of their last five. The Rams are second bottom of the over 2.5 goals table averaging just two goals per game.
