Brighton & Hove Albion vs Cardiff City Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

Brighton and Cardiff will meet on Tuesday evening (19:45) in a game that was postponed over the Christmas and New Year period because of bad weather. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Three goals and three red cards made for an entertaining game Friday night as Brighton saw off promotion rivals Sheffield Wednesday 2-1.  Anthony Knockaert grabbed both of the goals as they gained three crucial points that means the gap from them to Huddersfield in third place is now eight points. Cardiff netted in injury time last time out as a late Rhys Healey header give them victory in their relegation battle with Burton 1-0 to move into 16th place. It was December 3rd the last time these two sides met as the Seagulls could find no way past a strong Bluebirds rear-guard and the game ended scoreless.

Brighton Preview

It is six wins from their last seven games for Brighton and they will know that this is their match in hand over Newcastle and victory here will move them back top of the table. The Seagulls have won each of their last four and are unbeaten in their last ten at their own ground. During the course of the league season Brighton have been involved in more under fixtures (14) than over (12). However, in terms of recent ties this record has changed with five of their last six going over. It has ended 3-0 in three of the four that Chris Hughton’s men have played at home to sides in the bottom nine of the table. Eight teams in total have failed to score away at the Amex this season.

Cardiff Preview

It is now three straight league victories for Cardiff who are now eight points clear of the relegation zone and could go as high as 14th with victory at Brighton. The Bluebirds are unbeaten in their last three games, winning one and drawing two. On the road against teams above them the Welsh team are struggling failing to win any of the eight they have played. Neil Warnock and his team tend to be involved in entertaining away fixtures with nine of these going over 2,5 goals and the last six producing a total of 21 goals. Both teams have scored in six of their eight away to teams in the top 15.

Brighton Team News

The Seagulls have confirmed that they intend to appeal the red card for influential striker Glenn Murray. One player who will miss out is defender Gaetan Bong who has a knee problem.

Cardiff Team News

Anthony Pilkington is set to miss out with a muscle injury while Bruno Ecuele Manga is on Africa Cup of Nations duty.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Without their top scorer I think Brighton look overpriced here and I like Cardiff with 1.0 start on the Asian Handicap line. These two sides battled out a 0-0 draw last time out and if the Welsh side can keep this all square or even win then your bet will pay.  If they lose the game by just one goal then your stake is refunded.

Ten of the last eleven Brighton games have seen exactly two or three goals scored and this looks worth an investment here.
