Brighton & Hove Albion vs Burnley Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Brighton welcome Burnley to the Amex Stadium on 16/12/17 with the away side continuing to exceed expectations in the Premier League. Brighton lost 2-0 at Spurs on Wednesday, while Burnley defeated Stoke 1-0 at Turf Moor last time out. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

One of the most impressive aspects of Burnley’s improvement this season has been their turnaround in form away from home. Brighton have been strong at home, but I can see the confident Clarets taking something back to Lancashire with them.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

Fortune wasn’t in favour of Brighton in midweek, as the Seagulls were condemned to yet another defeat, this time losing 2-0 away to Tottenham Hotspur. The nature of football tends to ensure when your luck’s not in, things don’t go your way and Brighton may have begun to believe it wouldn’t be their night when Serge Aurier scored with an intended cross, looping in at Matt Ryan’s far post. Brighton struggled themselves to create chances and the game was put to bet three minutes from time as Heung-Min Son doubled Spurs’ lead to leave the Seagulls in 13th. Scoring just one goal in their last five games, it’s easy to see why Brighton are in their current predicament, with goals drying up significantly over recent weeks. Wins at home have also been hard to come by, with the team currently five without a win after four draws and a defeat, although they have lost just twice at home all season. Now just four points above the bottom three, Brighton are amongst a host of clubs in the bottom half teetering precariously over the drop zone at this moment in time and are the fifth-lowest scorers in the division. They have spent much of their current run playing with just one up front and a change of system could be what this side needs to turn around this barron spell of form.

Brighton & Hove Albion Team News

Steve Sidwell (back) is missing for the home side.

Burnley Preview

A jubilant Sean Dyche declared himself "the proudest man in Proudsville" on Tuesday night as his Burnley side continued their excellent form with a 1-0 win over Stoke City - also temporarily moving them into the top four. Despite averaging less than a goal a game this season, Burnley have rose to become the surprise package in the Premier League, finding themselves amongst the big boys as the season approaches the halfway mark. They were well below their best against Stoke but it wasn’t to matter, as the three points came their way in the 89th minute via substitute Ashley Barnes, much to the grievance of Stoke boss Mark Hughes who felt his side deserved far better. Instead, Burnley romped to their third win in four games, with this also their second 1-0 home win in the space of four days after also defeating Watford last Saturday. Burnley have four defeats in the Premier League this season - the same total as Chelsea and Tottenham, one fewer than Arsenal - and their regimented defence always leaves them with a chance in games. Three of those four defeats have come by a 1-0 scoreline, with Manchester City being the only side to convincingly beat Burnley so far this season with a 3-0 win at the Etihad.

Burnley Team News

Ben Mee (knee) could return, but Matt Lowton, Dean Marney and Jonathan Walters remain doubtful. Tom Heaton (dislocated shoulder) and Robbie Brady (knee) are still missing.
