Brentford vs Stoke City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features the side in 18th hosting the side in 14th place in the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats

Brentford saw themselves into the Fourth Round of the FA Cup last time out with a 1-0 victory over Oxford thanks to a Neal Maupay penalty. In the league, they drew their third successive game on January 1st as they drew 1-1 with Norwich having taken the lead through Julian Jeanvier.

Stoke drew 1-1 away at Shrewsbury in the FA Cup in a match that marked the end of the Gary Rowett regime. Luton boss Nathan Jones takes over and he will need to work on a side winless in three who went down 2-0 at home to Bristol City on New Year’s Day.

The reverse fixture came on August 11th at Griffin Park and ended 1-1 with Benik Afobe and Ollie Watkins. Both teams now have a new manager in the dugout with Thomas Frank also not long in the job.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Brentford are marginal favourites for this game through it looks a tricky betting option especially given the change in manager for Stoke with Nathan Jones in the dugout for the visitors. It remains to be seen if the Potters were under-performing because of Rowett or if the squad simply is not good enough.

I prefer a couple of plays in the anytime goalscorer market with one player each selected from both sides. Neal Maupay is the obvious call for the Bees and with 15 for the season and three in five at home he looks value.  For the visitors, it is hard to know what the team selection will be but Nathan Jones has never been afraid to give youngsters a go and Tyrese Campbell might get a run out and a chance to impress.

Brentford Preview

It is three straight draws and no defeat in four for the Bees who sit in 18th place just six point above the drop. They face a decent run with each of their next four against teams in the bottom-half.

At Griffin Park, the London side are unbeaten in their last two in the league through had lost the three prior to that. Four of their last five at their own place have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Brentford are not a side who usually brings many player in during January and they are not expected to have many incomings. They could though look to sell with Nico Yennaris, Romaine Sawyers and even Neal Maupay heavily linked with exits.

Brentford Team News

Emiliano Marcondes (ankle) and Lewis MacLeod (hamstring) are long-term absentees while Chris Mepham (foot) is a doubt.

Stoke City Preview

Just one victory in the last five for the Potters ultimately saw the end of Gary Rowett with Nathan Jones taking over. Jones has a reasonable introduction with just one of his next four against a top ten side through that is Leeds.

Away from the Bet365 Stadium, City are five without a win through four of these have finished in draws. Five of their last eight on the road have gone under 2.5 goals with just two of these seeing both team net.

Stoke have made the loan deals of Ryan Woods and Benik Afobe permanent but they will likely wait a few weeks now to see what their new manager feels of the current squad. Charlie Adam is one player who might be allowed to leave with Rangers interested in a loan move for him.

Stoke City Team News

Ryan Shawcross, Ryan Woods (both illness) and Joe Allen (knock) are dpubts while Ibrahim Afellay (knee) is a long-term absentee.
