Brentford vs Sheffield Wednesday Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday (30th) afternoon (15:00) game features two sides in the middle third of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Brentford made it back-to-back victories with a 2-1 home success over Aston Villa on Boxing Day. Romaine Sawyers and Lasse Vibe got the goals to give the Bees three points that were well deserved. Sheffield Wednesday were also successful on Boxing Day as they went to the City Ground and defeated Nottingham Forest 3-0. Adam Reach gave them a fifth minute lead, Jordan Rhodes from the penalty spot and Lucas Joao also netted to give the Owls a deserved three points. The reverse fixture came in September at Hillsborough and Wednesday won that game 2-1 thanks to goals from Gary Hooper and Ross Wallace while Nico Yennaris had given the Bees the lead. It means the Owls have lost just one of the last nine head-to-heads between these sides.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the match market prices on offer here though a tendency to draw too many means I could not be backing Brentford so I would recommend looking at other markets to find the value. Both teams have goalscorers and have been involved in games going over 2.5 but I feel like the Owls might not approach this game the same way they did against Forest. Lee Bullen will know suddenly he is a contender for the role after an impressive caretaker debut and this might just change his mind-set and see him set up his team to be a little more cautious. This also leads itself into thinking we might have to wait for the opener so try no goal to be scored before 27:00.

Brentford Preview

It is now back-to-back victories for the Bees and just two defeats from their last 17 matches which has seen them climb into 12th. A joint divisional high of ten draws means they are not higher as they have only lost one more game than third placed Cardiff. At Griffin Park, they have three wins and four draws from their last seven and are unbeaten in 11. Seven of the last nine they have played in front of their own fans have seen both teams find the back of the net. Five of the last six Brentford have played have gone over 2.5 goals with three of these also going over 3.5 goals. Lasse Vibe is in a nice run of scoring form having five goals in his last four appearances.

Brentford Team News

Henrik Dalsgaard (heel) is a doubt while Rico Henry (knee) is a long-term absentee.

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

Victory last time out put to an end a run of three straight defeats and seven without a victory for the Owls. Caretaker boss Lee Bullen has emerged alongside Paul Lambert, Gary Monk and Paulo Fonseca as the main names in the frame for the vacancy. Away from Hillsborough, they have now lost just one of their last five with two of these ending all-square. These road trips tend to involve goals with four of the last five going over 2.5 goals. Four of the last five that Sheffield Wednesday have scored have come in the first-half with two in the opening twenty minutes. Nine of the last 11 that they have conceded have come in the second-half.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News

Gary Hooper (unknown), Steven Fletcher (knee), Barry Bannan and Kieran Westwood (both groin) are doubts. Tom Lees (thigh), Kieran Lee (hip), Fernando Forestieri (knee) and George Boyd (shoulder) are long-term absentees.
