Brentford vs Reading Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Brentford will be looking to bounce back from a 3-1 league defeat by Derby despite taking a first minute lead through Henrik Dalsgaard.  In midweek, they were in League Cup action away to Arsenal and battled well but lost 3-1.

Reading picked up their second victory in their last three with a comfortable 3-0 defeat of Hull with a goal each from Sam Baldock, Jon Dadhi Bodvarsson and Andy Yiadom with the only downside the dismissal of John O’Shea.  A Royals victory was probably a fair result but the scoreline slightly flattered them.

The two meetings between these sides last season saw the Bees take four points with a 1-1 draw at Griffin Park and a 1-0 win at the Madejski.  Both meetings last season went under 2.5 goals but the four before that were over 2.5.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Brentford are a strong home side and it is hard to oppose them here but the prices are giving nothing away.  I would look to enhance it by backing them to be ahead at the break and again at the end of the game which would have paid in all four home league matches during this season.

Lewis MacLeod has two home goals this season and with Neal Maupay going off at such short odds looks a worthwhile each-way first goalscorer play.

Brentford Preview

The Bees have suffered a mini stutter with no victory in their last two but they still have four victories, three draws and two defeats from their last nine and sit in seventh.  They now have a run that sees three of their next four at their own ground.

At Griffin Park, they have been perfect with four victories from four with 11 goals scored and just two conceded.  Neal Maupay has bagged five times in four appearances in front of his own fans.

Brentford are the third highest scoring side in the Championship this season having netted 16 with Neal Maupay grabbing eight of these.  Their defence is solid shipping just ten times keeping two clean sheets this season.

Brentford Team News

Rico Henry (knee) and Emilano Marcondes (unknown) remain long-term absentees.

Reading Preview

Two victories from the last three has given the Royals new hope and they have moved up to 20th with eight points.  This starts a mixed spell of four fixtures with two against top eight sides and the other two against bottom eight opponents.

Away from the Madejski, they have had contrasting performances with one victory, two draws and one defeat.  Each of their last three on the road in the league have seen both teams net.

Reading have 12 goals scored this season which is a mid-table attacking record and is led by Jon Dadhi Bodvarsson who has five while Sam Baldock has two in the last three.  Their defence has conceded 13 times which is a bottom third record and they have just one clean sheet this season.

Reading Team News

John O’Shea will miss the game through suspension while Adrian Popa (ankle), Dave Edwards (knee), David Meyler, Vito Mannone, Callum Harriott (all unknown) and Jordan Obita (cruciate) are all doubts.
