Brentford vs Ipswich Town Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the middle third of the Championship table.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Brentford boosted their play-off hopes last time out as they picked up a 1-0 road at Bristol City.  A Neal Maupay goal proved the difference in a game the Bees dominated in terms of possession and chances created.

Ipswich stopped a run that had seen them lose three straight as they drew 2-2 at home to Millwall in their last match.  They had a Martyn Waghorn brace to thank as they picked up a point.

The reverse fixture came early in the season in August and saw the Suffolk side come out on top 2-0 thanks to a goal each from Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner.  It put to an end a five-match unbeaten head-to-head record that the London side held.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Brentford are strong favourites to win the game but I could not bring myself to side with them given they have won just one of their last six at home.  Ipswich a few weeks ago might have appealed at the price but I wonder about a side on the road with a manager who will be gone in the summer.

Both sides have scored around two-thirds of their goals in the second-half so backing this to be the highest scoring 45 minutes makes sense while this also leads to taking a punt on the time of the first goal to come later than the allotted time which is 27:00

Brentford Preview

The Bees stretched their unbeaten run to three with victory last time out though they need to start winning if they want to make the end of season top six.  They have a favourable run in with just one of their last six against a top ten side.

At Griffin Park, they have won just one of their last six though they have drawn three of these and lost two.  Each of their last two and four of their last five in front of their own fans have ended 1-1.

Neal Maupay has bagged two in his last four and four in his last nine Championship appearances.  John Egan has a decent scoring record against Ipswich grabbing two in his last three.

Brentford Team News

Rico Henry (knee) is a long-term absentee while Andreas Bjelland (Achilles) is a doubt. Ryan Woods will miss the game through suspension.

Ipswich Town Preview

It is now five without a victory in the league for the Tractor Boys though a draw last time out did stop a three-game losing sequence.  They have a mixed run in with three of the bottom eight still to play though they also have three of the top ten to face.

Away from Portman Road, they have lost their last two though before that they were five unbeaten winning three of the previous four.  Just one of their last seven and two of their last 12 on the road have gone over 2.5 goals.

Just one of the last five Ipswich league games and three of their last 12 have seen both teams find the back of the net.  Around 68% of the league goals they have netted this campaign have come in the second-half an 40% in the final 30 minutes.

Ipswich Town Team News

Dominic Iorfa (thigh), Tom Adeyemi, Teddy Bishop (both hamstring) and Dean Gerken (hip) are doubts.  David McGoldrick (groin), Joe Garner, Emyr Huws and Andre Dozzell (all knee) are unlikely to feature again this season.
