Brentford vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides looking to put to an end a five-game winless run. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Brentford picked up a useful road point away to high-flying Leeds as they drew 1-1 in their last fixture before the international break. They seemed on course for three when a Neal Maupay penalty put them ahead but their opponents levelled with two minutes to claim a point their performance merited.

Bristol City stretched their winless run to five as they suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday last time out. The expected goals data indicates they should have won the game but their only game through a 80th minute Matt Taylor penalty.

The two meetings between these sides last season saw the Bees take four points with a 1-0 victory at Ashton Gate and a 2-2 draw at Griffin Park. The London outfit are now unbeaten in their last eight head-to-heads.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to side with Brentford at such odds here given they are without a win in five and have a new man in the dugout in Thomas Frank. Bristol City meanwhile are also without a win in five so I am not going to rush to be backing them either which means avoiding the full-time market to find the value.

The Bees have averaged 2.83 goals per fixture while the Robins have averaged 2.5 which suggests both teams will produce around that amount of goals here. The under 2.5 goals is too big an outsider so this looks the bet.

Both teams have scored over 45% of their goals this season in the final 30 minutes so backing the final half to be the highest scoring one appeals,

Brentford Preview

The Bees have made a good start to the season with four victories, six draws and just two defeats from their opening 12. They sit in seventh place and will hope the promotion of assistant Thomas Frank to replace Dean Smith will not impact too much.

At Griffin Park, they have been strong this campaign winning four of their opening six and drawing the other two. The London side have scored exactly two goals in four of their last five in front of their own fans.

Brentford have the joint-fourth best ranked attack in the division and the top goalscorer in Neal Maupay who has ten. Their defence has conceded 14 times and has kept just two clean sheets.

Brentford Team News

Rico Henry (knee) and Emilano Marcondes (unknown) remain long-term absentees.

Bristol City Preview

The Robins have had a mixed start to the season with an equal split of four wins, four draws and four defeats from 12. This puts them in 13th place but the expected data feels this is harsh and has them in seventh.

Away from Ashton Gate, it is also mixed fortunes with two victories, two losses and two finishing all-square. Just one of the last four City have played on the road have gone over 2.5 goals.

Bristol City have the tenth best ranked attack in the division and are led by the five goals of Andreas Weimann. The defence is joint-eighth best in the Championship conceding just 14 times keeping four clean sheets.

Bristol City Team News

Tomas Kalas (broken jaw), Bailey Wright (quad), Eros Pisano, Frank Fielding (both hip), Mo Eisa and Hakeeb Adelakun (both ankle) are all doubts while Korey Smith (knee) is out until the New Year.
