Brentford vs Birmingham City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Brentford got back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 victory at Sunderland at the weekend. Kamohelo Mokotjo and Neal Maupay had the Bees 2-0 up in 28 minutes and from there the result was rarely in doubt. Birmingham suffered their second straight league defeat losing 1-0 at home to Millwall. The Blues can have few complaints about the result as the Lions were the better team. The reverse fixture on the first of November in the Midlands and saw the London side pick up a 2-0 road victory. Ollie Watkins (penalty) and Neal Maupay got the goals that day to continue a head-to-head trend which has seen each of the last three and four of their last five won by the visiting side.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Brentford are the most likely winners of the game but a tendency to draw a few too many puts me off backing them especially against a Birmingham side who have picked up useful road results at Preston and both Sheffield sides (United and Wednesday) recently. Given that the Bees have scored around 66% of their goals in the second-half backing that to be their highest scoring and the highest scoring in the match looks a sensible approach.

Brentford Preview

The Bees put to an end a three-game winless run last time out and will now look to kick on in a bid to get into the play-offs. They sit in tenth place six points Bristol City in sixth with four of their next five against teams not in the top ten. At Griffin Park, they have not won any of their last two though before that had won three straight. Only Aston Villa (one) have lost a lower amount of home league fixtures than the Bees who have lost just two. Just one of the last eight Brentford have played in the league has seen both teams find the back of the net. 66% of their Championship goals this season have come in the second-half with 33% in the final 15 minutes.

Brentford Team News

Rico Henry (cruciate) is a long-term absentee while Sergi Canos is suspended.

Birmingham City Preview

The Blues have now lost three straight in all competitions and two in the Championship. They are in 19th place and just three points above the bottom three with three of their next five on the road. Away from St Andrew’s, they have lost one of their last six which came on their last road trip at Aston Villa. Only three sides have conceded more goals on their travels than the 26 Birmingham have shipped. Just three of the last nine the Midlands side have played in the league have seen both teams find the back of the net. They need to find a consistent scorer as Sam Gallagher is their top scorer with just six goals.

Birmingham City Team News

Cheikh N’Doye is available after suspension while Isaac Vassell (cruciate) and Jonathan Grounds (knee) are long-term absentees.
