Brentford vs Barnsley Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon fixture (15:00) features two sides in the bottom-half of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Brentford suffered 3-2 loss at the KC Stadium to a Hull side inspired by the new man in the dugout Nigel Adkins. The Bees took the lead through an own-goal after half-time but were undone by a three-goal spell in 21 minutes and an 87th minute John Eagan strike proved to be too little too late. Barnsley lost their fifth straight as they suffered a 3-0 home loss to Derby in their last fixture. The scoreline was harsh on the Tykes who matched the Rams in expected goals data but could not score while conceding too many at the other end. The two meetings between the pair last season saw a 1-1 draw at Oakwell while the game at Griffin Park was won 2-0 by the Yorkshire outfit. Four of the last six head-to-heads have ended in a draw.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Brentford should return to winning ways here but I could not bring myself to back them at such a short price given how many games they have failed to win this season. A safer way then is to side with them in the goals market and they can be backed to score over 1.5 goals and over 2.5 goals against a Barnsley side who have shipped at least three in each of their last three games. The Bees meanwhile have scored two or more goals in each of their last three.

Brentford Preview

A three-game unbeaten run for the Bees came undone last time out though it is still just two defeats in their last 14 league fixtures. The London side face just one of the top ten in their next four matches. At Griffin Park, they are unbeaten in nine matches though six of these have finished all-square.  Both teams to score has happened in each of their last four at their own ground and eight of ten this season. Each of their last three and six of their last nine have gone over 2.5 goals with the last three all going over 3.5 goals. Around 73% of the goals Brentford have netted have come in the second-half with 36% in the final 15 minutes.

Brentford Team News

Henrik Dalsgaard (heel) and Lasse Vibe (hamstring) are doubts.  Alan Judge (leg) and Rico Henry (knee) are long-term absentees.

Barnsley Preview

It is five straight defeats for the Tykes a run that has seen them drop down the table into 20th place. None of their next six are against a top eight team but just one of them is against a side beneath them (Sunderland). Away from Oakwell, they have lost their last two but before that were undefeated in four matches. Seven of their last eight in the Championship on the road have seen both teams find the back of the net. Barnsley have failed to score in four of their last five and netted just two times in total from their last six. They have conceded nine goals in their last three fixtures and 12 in their last five.

Barnsley Team News

Angus MacDonald could return after illness while Lloyd Isgrove and Adam Jackson (both knee) remain out.
