Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Greece Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Bosnia & Herzegovina will be aiming to close the gap at the top of the World Cup qualifying group H when they welcome Greece at the Stadion Bilino Polje on Friday night. Bosnia & Herzegovina managed a comfortable 5-0 home win over Gibraltar in the previous qualifier thanks to a brace from Vedad Ibisevic and three other goals from Avdija Vrsajevic, Edin Visca and Ermin Bicakcic. On the other hand, Greece were very close to secure an incredible victory in Belgium last time out, but they conceded a goal with just one minute to go and had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Konstantinos Mitroglou gave Greece the lead in the first minute of the second half, but this wasn’t enough to grab all three points. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

This is a crucial game for a play-off spot so I’m expecting a tough and well-contested affair. The reverse fixture ended as a 1-1 draw, which was the third of the last four meetings between these two sides with few than two goals scored. I’m backing another low-scoring affair despite the fact that these two sides have bagged 23 goals between them throughout this qualifying campaign.

Bosnia and Herzegovina Preview

Bosnia & Herzegovina narrowly missed out on making it to Euro 2016 last years as they were beaten by Ireland in the play-offs. However, the Bosnians have improved considerably since then and kicked off their World Cup qualifying campaign in a different manner. Bosnia have only lost once in their five qualifying games so far and enter the fray on the back of a four-game across all competitions. They picked up two victories over Cyprus and Gibraltar without conceding, along with a 1-1 away draw in Greece in their most recent three qualifiers. In addition, they followed this up with a 1-2 away win over Albania in a friendly game towards the end of March. Despite their solid campaign, Bosnia sit only in third in the group table with one point behind the 2nd-placed Greece and three points adrift of the current leaders Belgium. The Bosnians looked incredibly strong going forward throughout this qualifying campaign as they are the group’s second topscorers with 13 goals under their belts after five rounds. Edin Dzeko and Vedad Ibisevic have been Bosnia’s most dangerous players in front of goal throughout this campaign, scoring three goals each. Actually, Dzeko has enjoyed a fantastic season for his club AS Roma, as he was the Serie A’s topscorer with 29 goals in his 37 league appearances. Mehmed Bazdarevic’s men can count on their home form ahead of this clash as they are undefeated in the last eight home fixtures across all competitions, conceding just three goals in this term.

Bosnia and Herzegovina Team News

Danijel Milicevic and Daniel Pavlovic are both missing through injury ahead of this clash.

Greece Preview

Meanwhile, Greece had a terrible Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, finishing on the bottom spot of the group table tied on points with the lowly Faroes Islands. Similar to their Friday’s opponents, the Greeks have improved considerably over the past year and kicked off this World Cup qualifying campaign in a perfect manner. The Greeks picked up back-to-back wins over Gibraltar, Cyprus and Estonia in the first three group fixtures, scoring at least two goals in each of these. Furthermore, they followed this up with two successive 1-1 draws against stronger opponents in the shape of Bosnia & Herzegovina and Belgium. This leaves Greece in second position in the group H table with 11 points under their belts after five rounds, just two points off the current leaders Belgium. The Greeks looked very well-organized at both ends of the field throughout this campaign, scoring 10 goals while conceding just three. Konstantinos Mitroglou is definitely a player to watch here, as he is the team’s topscorer so far with three goals under his belt. Greece have enjoyed an excellent run of form on the road over the past year, winning four and drawing once in their last five away games across all competitions. The bad news is that Greece have failed to win in their most recent two visits in Greece while scoring just once.

Greece Team News

Five players selected were called up for the first time: Andreas Gianniotis, Babis Lykogiannis, Panagiotis Retsos, Giorgos Koutroubis and Tasos Donis. The bad news is that Giorgos Tzavellas, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Andreas Samaris and Panagiotis Tachtsidis are all out through suspension. Furthermore, Nikos Karelis is missing through injury.
