Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Belgium Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Bosnia & Herzegovina are still looking to secure a World Cup play-off spot when they welcome the group H leaders Belgium at the Stadion Grbavica on Saturday afternoon. Bosnia managed a comfortable 0-4 away victory over the minnows Gibraltar last time out thanks to a brace from Edin Dzeko and another two goals from Kenan Kodro and Senad Lulic. On the other hand, Belgium picked up a hard-fought 1-2 away win against Greece back in September, with goals from Jan Vertonghen and Romelu Lukaku. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Bosnia are unbeaten in three home meetings with Belgium across all competitions, but the Red Devils have won the most recent two games between these two sides, scoring at least three goals in each of these. I think the ‘Total Goals’ market is the one to be considered, as four of the last five meetings between these two sides have seen more than three goals scored.

Bosnia and Herzegovina Preview

Bosnia & Herzegovina have been up and down throughout this World Cup qualifying campaign, but they still find themselves in second spot in the group H table with 14 points under their belts after eight rounds, just one point clear of the third-placed Greece. After a sloppy run of form which has seen them drew nil-nil at home against Greece and lose unexpectedly 3-2 at the hands of Cyprus, the Bosnians bounced back with a comfortable 4-0 away victory over Gibraltar back in September. The good news is that Bosnia are now back on home soil where they haven’t lost a single game throughout this qualifying campaign. They have won three and draw one of their four home qualifiers, having kept a clean sheet in each of these. Furthermore, the Bosnians are undefeated in three home meetings with Belgium across all competitions, winning two and drawing once in this term. Bosnia looked solid going forward throughout this qualifying campaign, as they are the group’s second goalscorers at the moment with 19 goals under their belts after eight games. Roma’s striker Edin Dzeko has been Bosnia’s most dangerous player in front of goal throughout this qualifying campaign, as he is leading the team’s goalscoring charts with five goals under his belt. Furthermore, the 31-year-old forward has been in great shape for Roma in this early part of the new Serie A campaign, helping the team with seven goals in his six appearances.

Bosnia and Herzegovina Team News

Bosnia have no fresh injury concerns ahead of this game.

Belgium Preview

Belgium’s talented squad were expected to be frontrunners for Euro 2016 last summer, but the only managed to reach the quarter-finals of the competition where they lost at the hands of Wales. Manager Wilmots has paid the price for that poor performance and he was replaced by Roberto Martinez, who had a strong World Cup qualifying campaign so far. The Belgians have won seven and draw one of their eight group fixtures and sit comfortably at the top of the group H table with 22 points to their name, eight points clear of the second-placed and their Saturday’s opponents Bosnia & Herzegovina. This means that Belgium have already booked their place in Russia for the World Cup 2018 next summer. The Belgians looked incredibly strong at both ends of the field throughout this World Cup qualifying campaign, scoring 35 goals and conceding just three in eight games. They are one of the this qualifying campaign’s topscorers, but this makes a lot of sense as they have some of Europe’s most in-form attacking players at the moment in the shape of Romelu Lukaku, Dries Mertens, Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard. Away from home, Belgium are undefeated in six games at the moment, having scored at least two goals in five of these.

Belgium Team News

Romelu Lukaku is Belgium’s biggest absentee ahead of this game as he has been ruled out due to an ankle injury.
