Borussia Dortmund vs Real Madrid Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Borussia Dortmund will be looking for their first points in the Champions League group H when they welcome Real Madrid at the Signal-Iduna-Park on Tuesday night. Borussia Dortmund had the better ball possession last time out against Tottenham Hotspur, but they eventually lost the game 3-1 with their consolation goal being scored by Andriy Yarmolenko. On the contrary, Real Madrid won 3-0 at home over APOEL Nicosia a fortnight ago thanks to a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo and another goal from Sergio Ramos. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips - Match Odds

Dortmund lost 3-1 in their most recent Champions League fixture, but they have enjoyed a much better run of form domestically than Real Madrid. The Spaniards need to get back to winning ways in the first place, but they have a good opportunity against Alaves this weekend. The most recent two meetings between these two sides have ended in 2-2 draws, but BVB’s home record over Real Madrid has been impressive over the past few years, winning three and drawing once in this term. This having been said, I’m backing Borussia Dortmund to pick up at least one point from this clash.

Borussia Dortmund v Real Madrid - Correct score betting tips and odds

Five of the last seven meetings between these two sides have seen more than three goals scored and I think that will be the case in this one as well. Three of those games have ended in 2-2 draws, which is exactly the correct score that I choose for this clash.

Our Correct Score Prediction: 2-2 at odds 9/1 with Bet365

Borussia Dortmund v Real Madrid - Total Goals predictions and odds

It should be a goal fest here as there have been more than three goals scored in five of the last seven games between these two teams. BVB have scored seven goals in their two home league games so far this season, while Real Madrid netted nine goals in their three competitive fixtures this term.

Borussia Dortmund Preview

Dortmund’s defeat at the hands of Tottenham last time out in the Champions League was their only defeat in the last seven competitive fixtures. Domestically, BVB have won four and draw one of their five Bundesliga games so far this season, but they have a tricky home fixture against Borussia Moenchengladbach at the weekend. They should be able to grab another victory though, as they have already picked up two Bundesliga home wins so far this season. Dortmund looked very solid at the back over the past month and a half as they have kept a clean sheet in six of their last seven competitive games. This is Borussia Dortmund’s 12th appearance in the Champions League group stage and a sixth in seven years. Last season, BVB beat Benfica 4-1 on aggregate in the first knockout stage of the competition, but they lost 6-3 on aggregate at the hands of Monaco in the quarter-finals. BVB should feel confident ahead of this tie as they have collected seven points in front of their own fans in last season’s group stage. In addition, Dortmund are undefeated in four home meetings with Real Madrid in the Champions League, scoring ten goals and conceding just four in the process.

Borussia Dortmund Team News

Sebastian Rode, Mario Gotze, Marc Bartra and Jeremy Toljan are all doubts, but Eric Durm, Marcel Schmelzer, Marco Reus and Raphael Guerreiro are all missing through injury. The good news is Andre Schurrle is back in training following his thigh injury.

Real Madrid Preview

Meanwhile, Real Madrid were  unbeaten in eight competitive fixtures prior to their disappointing 0-1 home loss at the hands of Real Betis in their La Liga midweek clash. They should be able to get back to winning ways in La Liga this weekend as they travel to the lowly Alaves. Los Blancos kicked off their Champions League group stage campaign brightly, winning 3-0 at home at the hands of APOEL Nicosia. They will be looking to become the first side since Bayern Munich in 1976 to claim three consecutive European Champion Club’s Cups. Real Madrid have managed to win the Champions League trophy for two years in a row courtesy of their 4-1 final victory over the Italian giants Juventus. Away from home, Los Blancos have picked up wins in each of their three competitive fixtures so far this season, scoring three goals in each of these. In addition, Zidane’s men have only lost once in their last 12 away games in the Champions League and have never failed to progress to the round of 16. Last season, Los Blancos finished as runner-ups to Borussia Dortmund in the group stage, which was the first time since 2012 when they had failed to top their group. Real Madrid have only won five of their 31 visits to Germany, although four of these victories came in their most recent seven trips.

Real Madrid Team News

Theo Hernandez and Marcelo are both doubts, but Mateo Kovacic and Karim Benzema are both missing through injury.
