Borussia Dortmund vs Hertha Berlin Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

Hertha Berlin will have its away mettle, which was quite poor last term, tested when they travel to Borussia Dortmund in Saturday's prime time match.  Both sides come into this match off the backs of great starts on the opening weekend.  Dortmund won 0-3 away to Wolfsburg last Saturday.  American Christian Pulisic scored first in the 22nd minute before they doubled their lead just five minutes later through Marc Bartra.  Pulisic created the third when he supplied Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after 60 minutes.  Hertha got a home win over Stuttgart 2-0 thanks to a brace from Matthew Leckie in the second half.

Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Hertha took four points from BVB last season, and they also pushed them into extra time and penalties in the DFB Pokal before bowing out to the yellow and black.  Overall, though, BVB have a fairly substantial lead in the head to head battle.

Given Hertha's poor away record last season, as well as BVB's good use of home field, BVB are favored here in a big way.  However, there is still good money to be made on the tie.

BVB to win and both teams to score is set at 7/4.

And of course, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score in a half of your choosing is always a decent bet.  That is at 21/10.  He had goals in both Bundesliga meetings last season, and it looks a good move.

Borussia Dortmund Preview

Borussia Dortmund will feel very good about the manner in which they went about winning their opening match of the season.  Against a Wolfsburg side that many expected to be much better than last season, and away from home, they responded with three goals and a dominating performance to seal the three points and match Bayern... for now.  While they might not be able to keep up over the course of the season, they really do need to build their momentum and remain in second place this time around in order to make sure they are the preferred destination for younger players in Germany and Europe.  They will feel confident coming home for the first time this season that they can get started with a win in front of the Yellow Wall.

Borussia Dortmund Team News

BVB are getting a little healthier, but they still will lack winger Marco Reus, left back Raphael Guerreiro, midfielder Julian Weigl, winger Andre Schurrle, and Swiss army knife Erik Durm.  Winger Ousmane Dembele remains suspended due to refusing to play with Barcelona looming, while center mid Sebastian Rode picked up an injury in training midweek

Hertha Berlin Preview

Hertha Berlin did exactly what they do, and what everyone expected them to do last week, in winning against Stuttgart at home.  The newly promoted side would have known that Hertha were strong at home last season, and that continued as they strolled to a fairly routine win in the end.  They will be very encouraged by the two goals from Matt Leckie from the wing.  With striker Vedad Ibisevic very much a know quantity in this league, they need someone to take pressure off so that he can be afforded more chances.  For this match, Hertha will have a tough time, but do have a draw to look back on from last October.

Hertha Berlin Team News

Hertha will be unable to call upon striker Julian Schieber, right winger Valentino Lazaro, forward Davie Selke, left back Maximilian Mittelstadt, and goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann due to injuries.
