Borussia Dortmund vs FC Cologne Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Borussia Dortmund and Cologne will meet on Sunday after both sides played matches in Europe during midweek.  BVB come off a 0-0 draw at Freiburg last week and a 3-1 loss against Tottenham in the Champions League. Cologne come off a 3-0 loss away to Augsburg and a 3-1 loss away to Arsenal in the Europa League. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Dortmund and Cologne each took two points last season as the sides drew for the third straight time in succession. In fact, Cologne have not lost to BVB in their last six meetings, dating back to the start of the 2014/15 season. After a draw that felt like a loss last weekend for BVB and all of Cologne's poor recent play, surely the Yellow Wall will rise up and swallow up their visitors this time.

Borussia Dortmund Preview

We might be in the early part of the season, but Borussia Dortmund's players, their supporters, and their manager Peter Bosz will know deep down that they missed a great opportunity to put some space between themselves and Bayern Munich at the top of the table. Chances like that won't come around very often, and they could be three points clear instead of one. The manner in which they dropped the two points is also very disappointing. After having played against ten men for over 70 minutes and keeping the ball over 80% of the match, they couldn't find the back of the net against Freiburg. That will have to be worked on for certain. They also played on Wednesday against Spurs in the Champions League at Wembley Stadium, losing 3-1.

Borussia Dortmund Team News

Left back/midfielder Jonas Hector came off early in London, and he will be a big miss here in all likelihood. Joining him will be the ill forward Artjoms Rudnevs.

FC Cologne Preview

Cologne have gotten off to a putrid start to their season so far.  After qualifying for the Europa League, it looks like they may have well and truly bitten off way more than they could chew. They have lost their main striker, but most importantly, they have lost their first three Bundesliga matches. No one realistically expected to see them back fighting for Europe again given all the matches that are about to pile up here soon, but this is worrying for them. A 1-0 loss at Borussia Monchengladbach wasn't that worrying. But a 1-3 home loss to Hamburg and then a 3-0 loss away to Augsburg is very troubling. Alfred Finnbogason scored a hat trick for the hosts on the day as Cologne looked short on ideas. They had to go to England to face Arsenal in the Europa League to try and turn their form around on Thursday. They lost 3-1 after taking a ninth minute lead through Jhon Cordoba. However, Arsenal woke up in the second half.  Sead Kolasinac scored after just four minutes before Alexis Sanchez's 67th-minute winner.  Hector Bellerin put it beyond all doubt after 81 minutes.
