Bolton Wanderers vs Sheffield United Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

This Tuesday evening (20:00) game features two sides who have made different starts to life in the Championship.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Bolton suffered another defeat on Saturday afternoon as they were comprehensively beaten 3-0 at home to Middlesbrough.  Wanderers struggled to create chances and saw little of the ball. Sheffield United made it back-to-back victories as they defeated Sunderland 2-1 at the Stadium of Light. Clayton Donaldson marked his debut for United with a brace with the Black Cats goal coming deep into injury time. These two sides met in League One last season with one win each while Bolton also came out on top in an FA Cup encounter.  A Billy Sharp brace gave the Yorkshire side a 2-0 victory at Brammall Lane while Bolton edged a five-goal thriller at the Macron.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I hoped maybe that bookmakers would have reacted more to the start the two sides made and pushed Bolton out but as it is United being favourites but not lower than evens seems a reasonable valuation. In each of their last four Bolton have shipped over 1.5 goals and with Sharp and Donaldson in form I see no reason why the Blades cannot go over that figure. It is probably even worth throwing a small amount on them going over 2.5 as well.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

It has been a tough start to the campaign for Bolton who have just two draws and four defeats to show from their first six championship fixtures.  They sit bottom of the table with two points and they seem set for a season-long battle against relegation. At home, it is three games three defeats in the league and if you add this to the last time they were in this division is now just one victory in 11 in front of their own fans in the Championship.  Each of their home matches has at least been entertaining with all three of these going over 2.5 goals and totaling 11 goals. They have netted four goals this season in the league and Gary Madine has got two of these. The average time of the first goal conceded is just 18 minutes and this drops to just nine when looking at home ties.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

Sammy Ameobi (knee) and Josh Vela (ankle) are doubts.

Sheffield United Preview

It has been a great start for the Blades who have four wins and two defeats from their first six with those losses coming against strong teams in Middlesbrough and Cardiff. They sit in fifth place after six games and some see them as dark-horses for a play-off spot. On the road, they have lost two of the three played though this marks the start of a winnable sequence of away fixtures.  The two goals they scored at Sunderland were their first on their travels this season and marked the first of their three away ties to go over 2.5 goals. Billy Sharp has four for this season and Clayton Donaldson two and if these two can work together they have the makings of a dangerous partnership.  Over 70% of the goals the Yorkshire side have netted this season have come in the first-half.

Sheffield United Team News

Leon Clarke is suspended while James Hanson (hamstring), Samir Carruthers (calf), Caolan Lavery (head), Richard Stearman (hamstring) and Simon Moore (knee) are all ruled out of this game.
