Bolton Wanderers vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two teams struggling at the bottom end of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Bolton stretched their winless run to four and suffered their third defeat in this spell going down 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest. They can have few complaints about the result as they were second best to the visitors.

Hull are without a victory in seven and also lost their third from the last four going down 1-0 at Bristol City. The result was harsh on the Tigers who were actually the better side on the night.

The two meetings between these sides last season were won by the home team with it ending 1-0 in Lancashire and 4-0 in Humberside. In fact, the home side has won each of the last six head-to-heads.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I could not be backing either of these sides with any confidence given how badly out of form they are (a combined two wins from their last 20). Of the three the draw might be the better option but I will look elsewhere to find the value.

The Trotters have scored two in their last seven, the Tigers two in their last six so no in the both teams to score market is a definite player. In addition, take the game to have under 1.5 goals while also an honourable mention for either side to keep a clean sheet.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

The Trotters have taken one point from their last four and have slide down the table and now sit in 18th place. Phil Parkinson is working hard to get the most out of his team despite financial restraints and staying up once more has to be the main goal for the season.

At the Macron Stadium, they are struggling with four defeats and a sole victory from their last five. A lack of home goals is an issue with just two netted in these five and three games in which they blanked.

Eight of the 14 that Bolton have played in the league have gone under 2.5 goals and just two over 3.5. Just one of their last seven and three of their last 12 have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

Stephen Ireland (fitness), Gary O’Neil (calf), Sammy Ameobi (ankle) and Jake Turner (broken wrist) are all doubts.

Hull City Preview

The Tigers are now without a win in seven and that one victory in ten means they are second bottom of the table. Despite working with off-field issues you have to wonder how much longer Nigel Adkins will remain in charge of the side if they continue to struggle.

Away from the KC Stadium, it is five straight defeats conceding nine goals and netting just once in this spell. Four of the last five they have conceded on the road have come in the final 20 minutes.

Nine of the 14 Hull have played this season have gone under 2.5 goals though they have not been involved in a goalless draw. Just one of their last four and two of their last six have seen both teams net.

Hull City Team News

Stephen Kingsley (unknown) and Markus Henriksen (head) are doubts while Jon Toral, Angus MacDonald (both calf), Ondrej Mazuch (knee), Evandro (hamstring) and James Weir (meniscus) are all long-term absentees.
