Bolton Wanderers vs Derby County Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon game (15:00) from the Macron Stadium features two sides who have made solid but unspectacular starts to the Championship season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Bolton picked up a useful point in midweek at Birmingham in a game that we tipped had the potential to be low scoring. The tie finished goalless and was low on clear scoring chances. Derby secured their first win of the league season in midweek when they defeated Preston 1-0 at the IPro Stadium. The goalscorer that day was Matej Vydra from the penalty spot in a game they deserved to win. These two sides did not meet last season but in the seasons before that it has been Derby who have the best of the meetings going in their last seven. Johnny Russell has a good record in these games with the Rams midfielder netting four in their last six clashes.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Home teams win around 50% of games in the Championship so to take on a home team you want to be looking for a weak home side or a strong away team or a gulf in class and I don’t think any of that is evident here. Are Derby the better team? Yes. Are they that much better? No. Take a play then on the double chance market of a Bolton win and the draw. YES in the both teams to score market also looks worth a play as this happened 9 of the last 15 Bolton home games and four of their last five away for Bolton.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

Wanderers are searching for their first league victory of the season but can take heart from two useful road points in their last two. Phil Parkinson will set his side up to be difficult to beat on the road and look to be a little more attacking in front of their own fans. At home, defeat to Leeds on the opening day put to an end a run of eight matches without a loss at their own ground. Nine of their last 15 in all competitions at the Macron have seen both teams find the back of the net. They sit second bottom of the shots per game table and are in the bottom five for the possession stats. Adam Le Fondre, Gary Madine and Filipe Morais have grabbed one league goal each for the Trotters this season while Adam Armstrong has looked a threat in limited minutes off the bench.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

David Wheater (back), Josh Vela (ankle) and Sammy Ameobi (knee) are unlikely to feature here.

Derby County Preview

It has been a good few days for Derby who registered their first win of the season at home to Preston on Tuesday then secured the signing of Tom Lawrence. The former Leicester player impressed at Ipswich last season and will give them a much-needed creative edge. On the road, they have book ended both seasons with a draw one at Rotherham at the end of last season and one at Sunderland on the opening day of this one. Both teams to score has happened in four of their last five on their travels. The Rams are one of the more successful teams in aerial duels this season sitting fifth in this table. Bradley Johnson has registered the most shots for County while Johnny Russell who is second has a good record against Bolton.

Derby County Team News

Darren Bent (hamstring) is their key loss while Jamie Hanson (calf) and Kyle McAllister (groin) are also expected to miss out. George Thorne (broken leg), Jason Shackell (back) and Max Lowe (abdominal) are all closing in on a return.
