Bolton Wanderers vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (20:00) game is live on SKYTV and features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Bolton were last in action on 20th January where they battled out a 1-1 league draw at home to Ipswich. Gary Madine had put Wanderers in front only for a Joe Garner goal eight minutes from time to cost them all three points.

Bristol City played last weekend and got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory at home to QPR despite going for almost an hour with ten men. Famara Diedhiou and Joe Bryan got their goals while Nathan Baker was the player dismissed.

The reverse fixture came on the 26th September at Ashton Gate and the Robins won on that occasion 2-0. Famara Diedhiou and Aden Flint got the goals while Filipe Morais was sent-off for the Trotters.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bristol City are the most likely winners but the prices don’t reflect value on a side who have won just six of 14 on the road against a Bolton team who have lost just six of 14 at their own ground so the recommendation is to avoid the win/draw/win market.

Around two-thirds of the goals the Robins score come in the second-half while it is closer to a 50/50 split for the Trotters. The hosts are outsiders to get the first goal which I think must be worth a play as does backing City to score their most goals after the interval.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

It has been a mixed bag of late for the Trotters with two victories, one draw and two defeats from their last five matches. They sit in 22nd place which is level on points with Hull just above the bottom three with each of their next three against sides in the top six.

At the Macron Stadium, they have taken seven points from their last three fixtures and lost just one of their last nine. Only three sides in the division have conceded more home goals than the 20 Wanderers have shipped this season.

None of the last seven Bolton have played in the league have gone over 2.5 goals with three of these going under 1.5. Ten of the 17 they have scored at home this campaign have come in the opening 45 minutes.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

Darren Pratley (broken leg) is their only absentee for this game.

Bristol City Preview

Victory for the Robins last weekend put to an end a run of seven without victory in all competitions and four in the league. They sit in fifth place and are just three points behind the automatic promotion spot with back-to-back game against relegation threatened sides.

Away from Ashton Gate, they are without a win in three league fixtures though they have lost just one of the last 13 which came at Aston Villa. After being one of the highest scoring road teams in the division they have blanked in their last two on their travels.

Each of the last four Bristol City league games and five of their last six have seen one or both teams fail to find the back of the net. 15 of their 29 league matches have been all-square going into the interval.

Bristol City Team News

Frank Fielding, Milan Djuric (both groin) and Callum O’Dowda (ankle) are doubts while Nathan Baker will miss the game through suspension.
