Bolton Wanderers vs Blackburn Rovers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday evening (17:30) fixture is a Lancashire derby and is live on Sky Sports.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Bolton saw their two-game unbeaten run come to an end in midweek going down 2-0 away to Stoke. Wanderers can have few complaints in a game they were second best in and barely created a scoring opportunity.

Blackburn are now two without a win following a 2-0 home to loss to Sheffield United on Wednesday evening. Rovers produced one of their flattest performances of the season and deserved little.

These two were in different divisions last season so you have to go back to the 2015/16 season for their last meetings. The Trotters have won three of the last five against their local rivals Rovers.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The hosts look unbackable here with the only recent victory when they got lucky against Derby a few weeks back. The visitors though are starting to stutter a little and the price is too short to be backing a side who have one win in six.

The recommended bet is to take the game to have no early goal before 33:00 given this is a local derby with a lot of pride at stake. I feel it could be a cautious opening before the third game in seven days catches up with both teams and leads to a second-half that features more goals.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

The Trotters have picked up just five points from their last seven though a strong start is allowing them to keep their heads above water. They are 15th in the table but the expected goals data believes they should be bottom of the division.

At the Macron Stadium, it has been a mixed bag this season with two victories, one draw and two defeats. Josh Magennis has netted three goals in five appearances in front of his own fans.

Bolton would be second bottom if the table was decided on results from the first 45 minutes with them being ahead just once going into the break. 60% of their goals have come in the second-half and 80% in the final hour.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

Andrew Taylor (calf) and Ben Alnwick (knee) are doubts while Sammy Ameobi (ankle) and Jake Turner (broken wrist) will miss the next few weeks.

Blackburn Rovers Preview

Rovers have suffered just two defeats this season but both have come in their last six and they have won just one of these six. They sit in 14th place and three of their next four are against teams in the top eight.

Away from Ewood Park, it has been decent returns with two victories, two draws and just one defeat in five. Bradley Dack has found the back of the net three times on the road this season.

Blackburn would be as high as sixth if the league was decided on the scores after 45 minutes having been behind just once going into the break. Just four of the 15 the Lancashire outfit have conceded have come before the interval.

Blackburn Rovers Team News

Ryan Nyambe (hamstring) and Jacob Davenport (hip) are doubts while Dominic Samuel and Ben Gladwin (both knee) have both been ruled out for the season.
