Blackburn Rovers vs Sheffield Wednesday Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the middle third of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Blackburn suffered a second successive loss on Wednesday evening going down 3-1 away at Wigan. They can have few complaints about the result in a game the Latics dominated and Rovers one goal was an own-goal.

Sheffield Wednesday put to an end a six-game winless run with a 1-0 home success over Bolton in midweek. Tom Lees goal proved the difference in a match the expected goals data had too tight to call.

The Owls have won each of the last three head-to-heads between these sides and are unbeaten in four previous. Six of their last seven clashes have seen both teams net and gone over 2.5 goals.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Blackburn have been strong at home this season but with just one win in their last six at all grounds I could not be backing them here. The marginal value lies with Sheffield Wednesday given these sides have little to choose between them but I would need to see more from them then a narrow victory over Bolton.

Both sides have scored around 60% of their goals this season in the second-half so backing this to be the highest scoring 45 minutes makes sense as does opposing the game to have an early goal which is set at 29:00.

NO goal before 29:00

Second 45 minutes to be the highest scoring half

Blackburn Rovers Preview

It is now three without a victory and just one win in the last six for Rovers as their strong start to the season has slowed down. They sit in 13th place ahead of difficult run that sees six of their next seven against teams in the top ten.

At Ewood Park, they are unbeaten in their three previous and have lost just once at home this season. Bradley Dack has four goals in his last six appearances in front of his own fans in the league.

2.63 goals is the average amount of goals produced in a Blackburn fixture with the Lancashire outfit responsible for 1.16 of these. Each of their last three and six of their last seven have seen both teams net.

Blackburn Rovers Team News

Darragh Lenihan and Jacob Davenport (both hip) are doubts while Dominic Samuel and Ben Gladwin (both knee) have both been ruled out for the season. Elliott Bennett is available after missing out midweek through suspension.

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

The Owls have picked up four points from their last three but these are the only four from their last seven which is why they are down in 16th. This marks the start of a reasonable run of games with none of their next four against teams in the current top ten.

Away from Hillsborough, they are without a win in three but have won three of the previous seven. Six of the last seven road matches the Yorkshire side have played have gone over 2.5 goals.

2.89 goals is the average amount of goals produced in a Sheffield Wednesday fixture with Wednesday responsible for 1.21 of these. They have netted a total of just two goals in their last four.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News

Joost van Aken (ankle) is close to a return while Sam Winnall (also hamstring), Kieran Lee (knee) and Gary Hooper (groin) are long-term absentees.
