Blackburn Rovers vs Sheffield United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Wednesday evening (19:45) fixture features two promotion hopefuls and is live on Sky Sports (behind the red button). Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Blackburn stretched their unbeaten run to four with a 2-2 draw at home to Nottingham Forest their third draw in four. Adam Armstrong and Bradley Dack weighed in with a goal each to earn them a point despite Forest being dominant on the expected goals data.

Sheffield United made it back-to-back victories and three without defeat as they edged a five-goal thriller against Millwall. David McGoldrick grabbed a brace (one penalty) and Billy Sharp the other to give the Blades a deserved three points.

These two were in different divisions last season so you have to go back to the 2006/07 Premier League for their last meetings. It is hard to read anything into the head-to-head record then but for what it is worth it is honours even over the last six with two wins each and two draws.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Blackburn in the draw no bet market has to be the call given they have not lost at Ewood Park in the league since way back in September 2017. Rovers have drawn four of their five at their place this season so be sure to keep the tie on side.

It is two in two home games for Bradley Dack and five for the season and he should be backed to net at any time here.

Blackburn Rovers Preview

Rovers are draw specialists with only Birmingham (seven) having finished all-square in more matches in the Championship this season than the six they have. They sit in 13th place in the table having lost just once in the league.

At Ewood Park, they are unbeaten in five though again draws have been key with four of these ending all-square. Bradley Dack has netted now in his last two appearances in front of his own fans.

Blackburn are averaging 2.6 goals per fixture which is the 13th highest and they evenly split with five of ten going over 2.5 and five of ten going under. Only two sides (Birmingham and Swansea) have been involved in more goalless draws (three) than the two they have.

Blackburn Rovers Team News

Charlie Mulgrew (illness) and Jacob Davenport (hip) are doubts while Dominic Samuel and Ben Gladwin (both knee) have both been ruled out for the season.

Sheffield United Preview

The Blades have taken seven points from their last three and have lost just one of their last eight in the league. This is good enough to have them in fourth (one point behind the leaders) and they have three of their next five at home.

Away from Bramall Lane, they have been strong winning three of their five with their defeats coming at Middlesbrough and Bristol City. Four of the five on the road have gone over 2.5 goals.

Sheffield United matches average 3.1 goals which is the fourth highest in the Championship this season. Eight of the ten the Yorkshire outfit have played have gone over 2.5 goals with three going over 4.5.

Sheffield United Team News

Jake Wright (broken cheekbone) and Kean Bryan (unknown) are doubts.
