Blackburn Rovers vs Reading Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Wednesday evening (19:45) fixture is live on Sky Sports (behind the red button) and features an undefeated side hosting a winless side.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Blackburn picked up their first victory of the season and made it three without defeat in the league. Bradley Dack was the hero in a game that they deserved to win by an even bigger margin. Reading made it three defeats from three as they lost 1-0 at home to Bolton in a result that was probably harsh on them. The expected goals data supports that view but they failed to put the ball in the back of the net. These two sides have not met since the 2016/17 season and it was the Royals who won both those fixtures. Danny Graham has netted twice in his last three appearances against the Berkshire outfit.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the odds on offer here as the hosts have made a good start to life in the Championship.  The visitors have been a little unlucky so far but their poor road form means they cannot be backed. Of the three options the home win makes the most sense but at the prices, I would look elsewhere for the value. Reading have been level at half-time in each of their three so far before going on to lose so this looks an angle in.  Back the game to be a draw at half-time and then back the draw half-time/Blackburn full-time option.

Game to be level at half-time

Blackburn Rovers Preview

Rovers have started this campaign well with five points from three fixtures and they sit in 11th in the early table. The expected goals data table suggests they deserve better and has them top of the league. At Ewood Park, they drew their opener 0-0 with Millwall while added to last season they are 12 unbeaten at their own ground. The Lancashire outfit have kept clean sheets in three of their last five in front of their own fans. Bradley Dack has made a great start to the season netting four in all competitions and two when just looking at the league. Seven of the eight Blackburn (and all three in the league) have scored this season have come in the first-half.

Blackburn Rovers Team News

Elliott Bennett (shin), Sam Hart (thigh) and Derrick Williams (foot) are doubts while Ben Gladwin (knee) and Jacob Davenport (hip) are out for a month.

Reading Preview

The Royals are now winless and pointless from their first three Championship fixtures and if you add in last season it is eight without a victory. They are 23rd in the table but the expected goals suggest this is harsh and has them in 14th place. Away from the Madejski Stadium, they have played once this season losing to Forest which means they are nine without a win on the road. The Berkshire outfit have failed to net in their last five on their travels. Reading have been drawing at half-time and losing at full-time in their three league fixtures this season. They have netted just one league goal this season though Yakou Meite (who has netted in the League Cup) and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson (who got the goal) are averaging two shots per fixture.

Reading Team News

Garath McCleary (broken ankle), Jordan Obita (cruciate), Chris Gunter (thigh), Dave Edwards, Callum Harriot and Sone Aluko (all unknown) are out while Mo Barrow (unknown) is a doubt.
