Blackburn Rovers vs Reading Match Prediction

By Darren Colebrook

Third top meets third bottom in a game at Ewood Park Saturday afternoon (15:00) that will have implications at both ends of the Championship table.

Blackburn faced Brighton last time out and although they shipped goals to Shane Duffy, Dale Stephens and Glenn Murray they battled strongly and two Sam Gallagher goals were some reward for their efforts.

Reading bossed the game with Leeds in midweek in terms of possession but could not create enough chances and were undone by goals from Chris Wood and a late Souleymane Doukara penalty. Read on for our full match preview, predictions and betting tips.

Blackburn Preview

Owen Coyle must think the fixture computer has it in for his Blackburn side as this game with Reading at Ewood Park on Saturday (15:00) marks the fourth time in their last five games they have played a side in the top six. Throw in an away game at local rivals and this has been a testing spell for Rovers.  The Lancashire side have actually played well in this time taking three points at Newcastle, one at home to Huddersfield and lost by the one goal margin to Brighton and Blackburn.

Reading Preview

Jaap Stam has shocked a few with just how well he has started his management career as his Reading side sit third in the Championship table. The Royals are on a good run of form with six wins from their last eight with their only two defeats coming away to decent sides in Leeds and Fulham.  Away from home against sides in the bottom seven Reading are doing well with three wins, a draw and just one defeat (to Wolves).

Blackburn Team News

Gordon Greer will miss this game after his sending off in midweek. Rovers have a number of injuries at the back with Adam Henley (Hamstring) and Charlie Mulgrew (groin) doubtful and Elliott Ward (ankle) and Tommy Hoban (shoulder) set to be out until January.

Reading Team News

Danny Williams is still suspended while Deniss Rakels (ankle), John Swift (ankle) and Stephen Quinn (knee) are unlikely to feature for the Royals until the new year.

Betting Tips and Prediction

I am surprised to see the odds favouring that this game has under 2.5 goals when recent trends suggest over 2.5 goals looks more likely. Blackburn games have had over 2.5 goals in four of their last six games and three of the last five have all featured a massive five goals. Reading are more than capable of getting among the goals themselves as they have the 8th best-ranked attack in the division.

As well going over 2.5 goals it makes sense to take the YES in the both teams to score market which admittedly is not a common feature of recent Reading games but has happened in seven of the last nine Blackburn games and each of the last three.
