Blackburn Rovers vs Leeds United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday lunchtime (12:00) fixture features two sides in the top ten of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Blackburn put to an end a two-game winless run with a 1-0 road victory at Bolton in a combative local derby. A Bradley Dack goal proved the difference in a match with little to choose between the two sides.

Leeds were held to their second draw in their last three as they battled out a 1-1 with Brentford needing an 88th minute Pontus Jansson goal to rescue a point. The expected goals data suggests a point each was a fair reflection of an evenly fought contest.

These two were in different divisions last season so you have to go back to 2016/17 for their previous meetings. The Whites won both that season as well as eliminating Rovers from the League Cup.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Leeds are favourites to win here and given they have won three of six on the road and are facing a Blackburn side with just one home defeat this season I think it is hard to argue with the prices on offer.

Five of the six Rovers have played at home this season have been level going into the break so this looks the best angle of attack by taking it to be all-square going into the half-time interval.

Around 66% (two-thirds) of the goals United have scored in the league have come in the second-half so backing the second 45 minutes to be the highest scoring half also appeals.

Blackburn Rovers Preview

Rovers have made a decent start to life back in the Championship winning four, drawing six and losing just two of their opening 12. This tendency to draws means they are tenth with the expected goals data table having them a few places lower in 12th.

At Ewood Park, they have won just once but then also lost just one with four of these finishing all-square. Two of their last three and three of the last five the Lancashire outfit have played at their own place have seen both teams net.

Blackburn have been dependent on Bradley Dack for goals with him netting six of the 14 scored in the league this season. The defence has let in 15 goals though they have kept five clean sheets this campaign.

Blackburn Rovers Team News

Ryan Nyambe (hamstring) and Jacob Davenport (hip) are doubts while Dominic Samuel and Ben Gladwin (both knee) have both been ruled out for the season.

Leeds United Preview

It has been a good start to life under Marcelo Bielsa for Leeds who have won six, drawn five and lost just one of their opening 12 fixtures. They sit third in the table (two points behind the leaders) with the expected goals data feeling they are exactly where they deserve in third.

Away from Elland Road, they are the only undefeated side in the division with three victories and three defeats. Four of the last six on the road for the Yorkshire outfit have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Leeds are the second-highest scorers in the division (behind West Brom) with 22 goals and are led by Kemar Roofe and Mateusz Klich who have four each. Their defence is the joint-second best in the division having conceded just nine goals keeping five clean sheets.

Leeds United Team News

Patrick Bamford has been ruled out for three months with a knee injury while Luke Ayling will miss out through suspension. Barry Douglas, Pablo Hernandez both (hamstring), Kemar Roofe (calf), Gaetano Beradi (knee) and Conor Shaughnessy (muscle strain) are all doubts.
