Blackburn Rovers vs Birmingham City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the top-half of the Championship but just outside the play-offs. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Blackburn would have a took a point at Middlesbrough before kick-off but having played against ten-men for 69 minutes they will have been disappointed. They took a 22nd minute lead through Charlie Mulgrew but Boro fought back for a share of the spoils.

Birmingham saw their two-game winning run come to an end with a 1-0 home loss to Bristol City last time out. The Blues were marginally the better team in a game low on chances but it was the Robins who netted the vital goal.

These two sides have split their last five meetings with one each and three of these finishing all-square. None of their last four and just three of their previous 11 head-to-heads have gone over 2.5 goals.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bookmakers are having trouble splitting the pair which is fair enough given that with almost half the season played they sit level on points.  Both sides have drawn nine times these sides so if you wanted to bet on a result that would be the best option.

I prefer to look at some of the other markets available to find the value and note that both teams score around 60% of their goals in the second-half so backing the second 45 minutes to be the highest scoring appeals. These two evenly matched sides might have to wait before making a breakthrough so say the game will have no early goal with the current time set at 30:00.

Blackburn Rovers Preview

Rovers have been a mixed bag of late with two victories, two draws and three defeats from their last seven. They sit 11th in the Championship table and are five places and six points outside the play-offs.

At Ewood Park, they are tough to beat and have won three of their four last including victory over high-flying Leeds. This is the start of a trio of difficult home matches all of which are against teams in the top nine.

Each of the last five and eight of the last nine Blackburn have played in the league have seen both teams net. Three of their last four and five of their last eight have gone over 2.5 goals with none of the last five going under 1.5 goals.

Blackburn Rovers Team News

Jack Rodwell (concussion) and Elliott Bennett (broken toe) are doubts while Dominic Samuel and Ben Gladwin (both knee) have both been ruled out for the season.

Birmingham City Preview

The Blues are also in and out of form at the moment with three victories, three defeats and one draw from their last seven. They sit in ninth place but are level on points with their opponents today.

Away from St Andrew’s, they have lost two of their last three though these defeats came at Aston Villa and Derby. Just one of their next nine on the road comes against a team in the current top ten.

None of the last three Birmingham have played in the Championship have seen both teams find the back of the net. Six of their last eight have gone over 2.5 goals with four of their last seven going over 3.5.

Birmingham City Team News

Jota and Isaac Vasselll (both hip) and David Davis (ankle) have returned to training and are closing in on returns.  Michael Morrison (hamstring) is a fresh concern ahead of this match.
